We've been quoted $2500 for a fence (lowest price) - but our estate has certain rules- has to match neighbours if neighbours have a fence... 6ft, all wood, and has to have an undulating curved top.
Are those real rules or just unwritten rules where you'd get frowned on by the neighbours for doing something different..
Real rules. The neighbourhood can put liens against your house which make it impossible to sell your house without paying the neighbourhood first. We have neighbourhood Nazis that go around checking to make sure everyone has mowed their lawn, etc... We usually get a nastygram warning us to pull weeds or edge our lawn at least once a year. All sorts of silly laws... all fences have to be approved by them. Not allowed to have a shed or any external structure. Only allowed up to "two pets" (we've got 5 cats and dozens of fish... but they're inside and can't be seen by the neighbourhood Nazis. If you have pets- they're not allowed to leave your property unless on a leash... THIS INCLUDES CATS! You're supposed to keep your cat in your garden or get a fine. (that's why ours are indoors... impossible to keep a cat from roaming).
You did tell them to **** off didnt you? Thank **** for that. imagine your neighbours dictating how you do your garden. sounds like something out of a thriller.
Sounds like the back story to some horrific sex based mass murders. Guaranteed his neighbours have bodies under the patio. probably ex neighbours who didnt toe the loon bat line.
How would they make it impossible to sell your house. Surely these ******s would realise that you could single handedly bring the entire value of houses in the area down by opening up a local meth lab?
Not exactly... we just didn't get the fence... although... the reason we got it [got the quote not the fence] in the first place is because we have so many people trespassing through our property. Several of our neighbours are putting up fences as a response- so hopefully we won't have to. One kid we've seen climbing over people's fences though. More like a chick flick... May need to get one with all those trespassers. Actually, it would be illegal for me to fire a gun on my property. It's easy to get guns in the US... if you get one from one of the many gun shows all over the country you don't even need a license... doesn't mean it's legal to fire one except in an emergency or a designated place. We want to- but with the housing market collapse a few years back our house dropped in value by 33% completely erasing all equity we had in it. (we lost our downpayment on our last house too and had to pay to move out of our last house). We'd have to PAY money to sell the house. Waiting for market to rebound before we move. We need a bigger house... probably move to a different part of the city too where its cheaper... we had 1½ kids (preggers at the time) when we moved into this house... Now with 3 kids the house is too small. That and the cat population in the house has gone from 3 to 5. We need a bigger house so we can fit in more cats! You have to sign something when moving in agreeing to the rules... which we did in part because the last neighbourhood we live in had no neighbourhood association so no rules were enforced... No one took care of their property- it turned into a real dump over the three years from when it was first built to when we left... house prices dropped because it turned into a real scary place (wouldn't be surprised if there were some meth labs there). We put 20% down on our first house and lost the lot. Had to pay to move out. We deliberately moved somewhere more stringent to avoid the same thing happening. And it is...the estate looks beautiful, the Nazis make sure of that. Just a bunch of silly rules we have to obey... but the housing market crash means we're yet again in a house that is worth less than what we owe on it!
