Completely forgot about the golf until the last couple of hours. Well done Rory, some more Brits winning Majors now please. I noticed Adidas are really getting into the golf sponsorship anarl
Perhaps best not to stir up the question of who he'll be representing in the Olympics, then... But yes, he played very, very well over the four days.
I'd LUV it if Garcia could finally win a major. He's had 19 top-ten finishes now, including four runners-up spots.
He's won an Open but "one of the greats of the game"..... No. The journo's, pundits and press are so overly keen to spunk all over anyone home grown who achieves anything.
Well done Rory a great win, though you did go down in my estimation mentioning Manure in the winning speech.
Great result for him, I went to bed and he was 3 back, so for him to pull that around shows he has got some fight in him, congratulations to him. Though went down a bit in my estimations when he said he was going to parade the British open Claret jug and the USPGA trophy at Old Trafford on Saturday.
People talk about the sacrifices top sportsmen must make in order to succeed. Rory made a seriously big one in ditching the fragrant Miss Wozniacki and he's reaped the benefits. Personally I'd have stuck with her and settled for finishing 25th in tournaments every week.
I stayed up until 1 watching it. He played some great golf. Was pleased to find he had won this morning. Glad that little get fowler didn't win with his pathetic little tach. Bring on the Ryder Cup!
i tried playing gold a few years ago on Sutton with a brand new 500 quid set of Tiger sticks (having done really well with a cheap P&P set) all the way through the round i was seriously close to killing this little kid (on the hole behind) with my shonky shots , who was blissfully unaware of my skills , never again !!!
Fantastic achievement by Rory, back to back majors. No hate-squad this time either, could'nt believe all that crap about not signing the autograph after the Open win from people who don't follow the game or understand the rules
1 1 1 Three back-to-back wins including 2 majors is pretty good going. That round yesterday was one of the most entertaining major sundays in recent years, particularly the front 9 when the lead was constantly changing hands. His 3 wood from 284 to set up the eagle was as good as you'll ever see. He's not Nicklaus level yet, or at Tiger's sustained standard, but despite a poor 2013 his play in 2012 and 2014 is putting him on the way to chasing them. You certainly can't say he's just an overrated kid who's achieved a bit, he's already achieved far more in a few years than most players could hope for over 20+. If he had these numbers when retiring he'd already be remembered as one of the best of the era - more majors than the likes of Langer, Norman, Couples, Vijay and countless others. 1 more and he's up with Seve, Phil and Byron Nelson. He'll have cold spells, which is something Woods didn't really have in that crazy 10 year stretch up to 2008, but I would not be surprised if McIlroy ended up top 3 on the all time list.
