The team spirit at Sunderland seems excellent and Poyet is obviously a clever manager & good coach.

If Wickham doesn't want to be a part of that and wants to play for 'Long ball Sam', until he's sacked, then I'll take the money <ok>

Didn't say he's a top class player, I said he's going to become a top class player. We'll get nowhere if we don't take risks....

Former Sunderland winger Nicky Summerbee says Connor Wickham should stay at the Stadium of Light as he owes the club. He thinks he could be the next Kevin Phillips and won't do any better than Sunderland if he moves on.

Everything in football is a risk.

Pluses..... scored a few at the end of last season and a couple in pre season, young, rated by all before he come to Sunderland, if he doesn't re-sign we will get maximum 5-6 million and has great hair and lots of tattoos and a penchant for big bottle of ridiculously expensive champers.

negatives... has taken for ever to re-sign...too long, did f all before the end of last season, a few previous managers mysteriously wouldn't give him game time, a 12 million (maybe) offer, wears a cap indoors on his twitter photo. (is it raining indoors or sunny? or is he playing baseball indoors..nope!!)

They can have him for 16m not a penny less.

Altidore wont be fully fit until september and Borini is, well, not here - so we would only have Fletcher for the 1st few weeks of the season. I wouldnt put any bets on any new players been bought in quickly if at all so it would be a big risk selling him now imo

He seems to me like another Bent. Want's more money and a bigger profile to make the England squad. Let him go.

No fee set for Connor Wickham yet, West Ham and Sunderland still in discussions. Little way to go before any deal.

West Ham are a club in a fair bit of disruption with the manager & owners at each other's throats plus the supporters booing the team.

If Carroll comes back after a poor start from Wickham it could mean another loan spell at Sheff Wed.

If Wickham goes it's for the money and the money alone.

He seems to me, **** all like Bent, except the money side. Bent was beforehand and whilst at SAFC a proven goal scorer, of the highest calibre, Wickham is living of a few games.

    Excellent!

If that price is correct it shows the club are finally getting their act together ....... Welbeck wouldn't cost that much.

I was lying about 24 million. They'd have to be as daft as Liverpool to pay that much for Wickham. The porn brothers won't pay that.

WEST HAM have made a formal bid for Sunderland striker Connor Wickham, according to reports today.

Wickham is one of the strikers West Ham have been considering after ex-Newcastle frontman Andy Carroll was ruled out for fou months with an ankle injury.

And Sky Sports News are reporting that the Hammers have now made an offer for Wickham, who was the hero of Sunderland’s escape from relegation last season.

Sunderland have been in talks with Wickham’s agent throughout the summer over tying him down to a new contract, with less than 12 months remaining on his current deal - albeit the Black Cats would be owed compensation if he left next summer, due to his age.

The club have not yet made a concrete contract offer, but head coach Gus Poyet does ideally want Wickham to be part of his plans.

But last week, Poyet admitted that if Wickham didn’t sign a new deal at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland would look to sell the 21-year-old.

Sunderland are keen to avoid a repeat of the Jack Colback situation, when the academy product left for nothing at the end of his contract this summer.

Poyet said: “For me, Connor’s situation is clear. He needs to sign a new contract or we let him go – we sell him. There is nothing in between.

“He is an asset to the football club and we paid a lot of money for him.

“Last year, he was a key part of us staying up and he was very important. But he needs to realise that the club needs to look after the interests of the football club as well.

“I suppose that, one way or another, we are going to have an agreement.”
