Morning all, bright and sunny here, but maybe some showers this afternoon. Trouble broke out on Corsica at the football match between Bastia and Marseille. Bastia do seem to have a pretty wild lot of fans, with games last season against their island rivals Ajaccio played behind closed doors. Last season Saint Etienne fans were banned from away games after they threw seats at Nice fans. Many of the grounds still have fencing up to stop fans getting on the pitch, reminding me of what grounds in England were like years ago. Football over here is in a poor state with just a few clubs attracting large support. For the first matches of the new season grounds were often two thirds empty. The financial controls imposed on the clubs are good, but it does little to get the fans excited about a new season. Even if you have been poor on the pitch, you can always hope for better days ahead.

Very proud uncle tonight - 2 of my nieces have been chosen to be mascots at the Challenge Cup Final next week. They're representing Castleford so here's hoping Leeds lose 2 games in the south next Saturday!

Watching the Coventry v Cardiff game on SS1 (mainly due to the 2nd round draw afterwards) and the Cardiff fans chanting "we're Cardiff City, we'll always be blue". If their home kit was still blue, they'd be wearing their away kit tonight - maybe they should be more selective of the matches they chant that at
