Glad to see people have come to their senses (sorry to those who have always held the same view) and finally accept that Garrido is useless! I kept getting berated whenever i said that over the last 2 seasons. He is so poor
The thing that annoys me is when Lafferty and Grabban played up front together we scored bags in pre-season, especially with Redmond supporting, then we get to the actual season and suddenly Adams sticks Redmond back up front. I was hoping he'd prove the doubters wrong but the team selection hampered us. The Red Card obviously is what finally killed us but with the players we have, we should have had more control in midfield.
Well they've not shown it today? I'm not a fan of Martin at CB and there's not pace throughout the back four which I fear will cause problems. Our fastest left back has been caught out twice for pace and dismissed! This division is all about power & pace, sadly lacking in our back four.
Maybe people will realise the same about Surman in the future. Slow, weak, gives it away, plays the occasional good ball... Not good enough
So it seems Garrido is the first scape goat of this season? I agree he has performed badly but he didn't ask for Olsson to get sent off. In my opinion you don't expect to keep a clean sheet away, the problem this game that I saw was Redmond and Grabban being completely ineffectual up top. Lafferty and Turner have looked half decent but the team has looked terrible as a whole. The team was too front-loaded in my opinion, with way too much asked of Johnson. A day to forget and hopefully not a sign of things to come regarding our away games. Calling for Garrido to be offloaded now seems daft with Olsson suspended.
When Howson and O'Neil are available to play I suspect they'll start ahead of Surman. Tettey and Lafferty should have started and Redmond was out of position, overall a terrible first game for us.
Not the start any of the three relegated sides would have wanted but I'm disappointed in the lack of chances we created. I didn't expect a win today, and the sending off deffinately didn't help, but we just didn't work the keeper! I was expecting more from our "pacey" strike force.
No-one said he asked for the sending off, but having come on he was culpable for the goal within a few minutes, and it should have been 2-0 when he ballsed it up again, not long after. He has never been good enough, and it could have been argued that he was up against the best players in the country for the last two seasons, but to come down a league and look equally awful takes some doing.
Early days yet, but I agree. Even without Hooper, Pilkington and Fer today we still, on paper have one of the best squads in the division. I didn't think the defence was that bad (although not brilliant); the forwards and midfield were really poor today.
Can't tell a thing from the first game. In the last five years we've twice lost the first game of the season and twice been promoted. On the other occasion we lost on the first day we got our best finish for 20 years. We were better at the start of the second half. The red card killed us. A win would've done a world of good after the absolute crap we had to put up with last year, but hey-ho. We'll have to wait for Portman Road to finally score a first away goal in what - 6 months?
Not Garrido's fault personally that we lost. He made a mistake and got punished and now he is being blamed. Surely the poor forwards and non-existent midfield who created nothing are more liable than Javi?
I thought Russ and Turner actually looked quite good! Whits wasn't as suspect as we expected and Mr Consistent in Olsson ended up being the worst of the bunch. The problem today was playing a diamond with no target man.
