Yes, another bottom-half struggle looming this season. Makes me appreciate being a Spurs supporter more. Also my dad is a life-long Sutton Utd supporter, being a south Londoner (I know.... wrong side of the river to Spurs). Seen Sutton play more than I have Spurs!
Dawson got injured against Celtic, so I expect that's why he didn't feature in yesterday's game. Could he be on the verge of a transfer? It's possible, but we could field a whole team of players who weren't involved against Schalke: Vorm Walker, Chiriches, Dawson, Vertonghen, Assou-Ekotto Dembele, Capoue, Paulinho, Chadli Obika Some of them will be leaving, but some of them definitely won't.
Well, I don't expect Vorm (obviously), Walker, Vertonghen, Dembele, Capoue, Paulinho or Chadli to leave. Dawson and Chiriches are a bit up in the air and I'd be surprised to see either Assou-Ekotto or Obika still on the books at the start of next month, though they might only get loans. I don't think that the press have much of an inkling what the club's doing in the market at the moment. They seem to be making random stabs in the dark, even more than usual.
What would be the point of a loan for Benny, either we need him or we don't. I am yet to be convinced that Rose is a better player although he looked the part yesterday (in a friendly).
"What would be the point of a loan for Benny, either we need him or we don't." He is obviously out the door now, with two LBs and Fryers as "development" . For prospective buyers, is/was it in the clubs' interest to at least have BAE involved in serious squad training (even if he doesn't play a competitive pre-season game) ??
Ekotto should give Chimbonda a call and see if he can call his contacts at Carlisle United to see if they can offer Ekotto a chance, although he would probably just fight with his team mates or undermine the manager.
Strange way to sum up the career of a guy who has spent 7/8 years at the club, mostly as our first choice LB - arguably the best since Cyril. And at the same time has been a great ambassador for the club and supporter of the Borough. Focus on 2 incidents, neither of which has been fully explained. Benny clearly doesn't feature in Poch's plans and that may prove to be the correct call, but he would still be the best LB on our books this season as it stands.
I would say thats strange, mainly because I wasn't summing up his career! Ekotto is a player I've never rated that high, even when he was first choice and played an important role in the Redknapp years, but we have many players from that era who divide opinion and Ekotto is one of them. Yet he doesn't help himself as he undermined Avb, there was also that incident at the world cup and he also caused problems at QPR, so Ekotto clearly needs a fresh start and if he was as talented as some make out then there would be clubs willing to give him a chance as there is a shortage of quality left backs in the game,
For me, the trouble with "Disco Benny" is the simple fact that for every moment of inspiration and great play I can recall at least two moments of bad play and mistakes. He certainly isn't on the best LBs we've ever had. Okay, I wouldn't class him as one of the worst - because we've had some complete howlers, but he certainly isn't one of the best.
I'm sure that we'd like to sell him, but it doesn't seem like there are a lot of takers at the moment. He posted from the Lane yesterday, but it seems like he was in a box, again: please log in to view this image Best all round if he goes, but his stock's plummeted horribly and a lot of clubs won't be interested.
He was in Defoe's west stand box yesterday. Defoe was also present and was interviewed on the pitch at half time.
In the last 20 years who has been a better left back for the club than Ekotto? I will defend him as it winds me up all this "he makes 2 mistakes for any good thing he does" It's complete rubbish he makes no more errors than other players who play for spurs over the time he's played. You could pick holes in so many current spurs players and ex players for mistakes but Ekotto is just an easy target as his mistakes always get highlighted.
Mistakes by defenders IMHO get more stick as they are likely to result in goals conceded (and therefore points dropped) . Which seems to trigger the supporter much more than forwards whose mistake result in goals being missed (and also points dropped) . On BAE in particular, whatever the off-pitch antics at the club, he did not perform well for QPR. Which given that he was playing under Arry, is very telling.
The fact that he acts like a complete twat, and thinks he can do whatever he wants probably doesnt help his cause tbf.
The Yedlin link makes sense to me. Naughton has been linked with a move away as he wants regular first team football, Walker has some niggley injuries he can't shift, Plus Levy will make **** loads of money through marketing in the states.
The only issue is that, supposedly, he'll immediately be loaned back for the remainder of the MLS season - so at that point our cover at right back is either Naughton, who'll be playing in the knowledge his days as a Spurs players are numbered, or promoting Fredericks to the first team.
