The ground was also a war memorial. The plaque was placed away from the inscription not on top. Sadly when driving past looking down to the gates you will often see blue rubbish bins!!!

"The ground was also a war memorial."

No the ground was not a war memorial and never has been. If it was a war memorial, why did that Jamie Carstairs (whatever his name is) apply to get the ground registered recently? Which failed by the way.
The ground itself was given as a dedication. It was dedicated to those members of the rugby club that fell in the first world war and latterly the second world war. Like when someone dies and the family get a tree planted somewhere or put a bench somewhere. Its a dedication in memory of the deceased and not a memorial.
Now if the ground was a war memorial (which it isnt as explained above) then English Heritage and such like wouldnt have allowed any type of work that has taken place in the stands for it to lose its identity. They wouldnt have allowed the housing that was built in the last few years on the land.
The war memorial is just the gates and pillars - which will remain. Which leads me to the next point about your comment.

"The plaque was placed away from the inscription not on top."

The plaque was placed on a pillar. Not on the pillar which has the inscription but on another pillar. A lot of people dont actually realise that ALL the pillars are part of the actual listed war memorial.
    Look at this pic http://news.images.itv.com/image/file/395398/article_img.jpg
All the pillars in this pic and the gates are listed as a war memorial - not just the pillar with the inscription. The plaque was put on 1 of these pillars, which is on a war memorial.
Here is the report on why English Heritage refused the ground to be listed as a war memorial (again showing its not a war memorial) http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=1420469&resourceID=7
Notice under a heading 'Reasons for currently not Listing the Building' in the 4th paragraph. "Its historic interest as a war memorial ground is appropriately acknowledged by the designated Gate Piers and Gates". Its says Gate Piers and Gates. Not just 1 Gate Pier and Gates. So the prank was done on a war memorial.

But like I said on my 1st comment about this prank, I can see the funny side of the plaque and I would be pissing myself with laughter if it was done on City but its a shame that it was done on a war memorial as proved above in this post of mine.

Oh, that's alright then. As long as the post said it's lighthearted banter then it must be treated that way. FFS <doh>

I can see the humour but it was done on a war memorial (maybe not knowingly) and that is bound to upset people which you must understand.

The desecration of this war memorial will be worse in the extreme in my eyes when it is dug up, removed and replaced elsewhere in order for you lot to play Conference football up the road. false indignation and hypocrisy.. you must understand.!!

Indeed we have. But they cant just accept it because it helps Rovers. If Rovers were staying put and Higgs said they will move the pillars and gates to another location within the site and will make a really nice memorial garden to go with the pillars and gates, something really befitting, instead of where they currently are now which is between a lane of back gardens and a car park next to a run down stadium, im sure there would be no issue at all baldee. The fact is, where this helps Rovers, thats what upsets them about it. That is rather sad and pathetic

The prank was done on a war memorial. Is that appropriate and acceptable? NO.

The war memorial will be moved to another location within the site and will be much better appreciated and much more suitable than where it currently is. The Royal British Legion, past and present Bristol Rugby Officials, past and present military officials, English Heritage and everyone else who needs to be involved have ALL backed these plans and feel these plans will be a better tribute to the fallen war heros. So moving the pillars and gates, is that appropriate and acceptable? YES

When Bristol Rugby was broke and let us move in, if we didnt do that then Bristol Rugby would have sold the ground anyway to some supermarket which I doubt would have kept the pillars and gates. Higgs has made sure that the pillars and gates remain at the site.

No hypocrisy here. Well not from any blues and some reds anyway.
But those reds that are upset that moving the pillars and gates (which will improve and protect them and will still be on the same site which has got full backing, support and been quoted saying the new plans is a better tribute from the Royal British Legion and the rest then where the pillars and gates currently are), but feels using the war memorial as a 'lighthearted prank' being acceptable are the ones who are showing hypocrisy. And the ones who really should take a long deep look in the mirror and have a word with yourself.

Im done with this subject now. No point discussing it anymore. Its been made VERY clear that the ground is not a war memorial (english heritage refused to give the ground war memorial status). Only the pillars and gates are the memorial and 1 of those pillars was used for a prank. The ground is a dedication for Bristol Rugby who didnt look after it and had to sell. They sold it to Rovers so they could still remain at the ground instead of selling it to a supermarket and therefore becoming homeless. Bristol Rugby have made the decision to move from the stadium before they need to. Lansdown has made Bristol do this so he can save money ignoring the history of the ground with Bristol. If Sainsburys do actually move in, the pillars and gates will be very well looked after inside a fitting memorial garden which is a better tribute when compared to where the pillars and gates currently are, which has been backed by the people who actually matter. ITS THAT SIMPLE BOYS AND GIRLS.

Thats me done now with this subject. If any of you reds dont like the facts and dont like being told some home truths about your bitter twisted hypocrisy then you aint worth anymore of my time, effort and attention.

    Baldee <ok>

Do you think you could extend the indignation regarding this war memorial to maybe NOT stacking all your rubbish against this so valuable memory of the war dead every week.!

well its only showing the f with 2 stars. i dont know a 3 letter swear word which begins with an f.

usually a swear word (if swearing was off) would show no letters but the correct number of stars. but whats on yours just looks stupid :)

No it don't make me look stupid, because I spelt it correctly. But you are looking silly by arguing about it when I'm correct and you're incorrect.
