Messages:283Likes Received:185..Bristol City, Pace and power upfront, solid looking defense, tough tacking midfield, and experienced in knowing how to play the officials and win free kicks. They are not in the same class as Wolves and Brentford but this is a poorer division this season. As for us we need to toughen up in the spine of the side, Bring Collins in, move Alcock to full back and Bring Doyle back in for Basham. It always looked a difficult first few games but we need to get a result at Coventry/Northampton now as Peterboro away the following Game looks a bit beyond us at the moment.Last edited:*Today at 4:40 PMHarry's Game,*Today at 3:25 PM#1

They got three points against the title favourites (lol) away from home. They were brutal to watch at times, a bit hoofy, very cynical... but that's how you get out of the division.moDtheGod,*Today at 4:11 PM#4Rodley*and*Harry's Game*like this.

Messages:579Likes Received:566Location:Gosport, HantsI don't think they were that good, at all. They did, however exploit some critical weaknesses in our defence. The rest of the time they were moderately compact where they needed to be, but in midfield they gave the ball away time and time again. The first goal was an excellent header following some **** defending out wide with Harris guilty of not forcing him out wide. The header was unchallenged and from about 11 yards. Their second was just poor positional and marking technique leaving Elliot to just do the finishing, itself assisted by Howard not moving off his line quick enough to prevent the ball flashing across him and into the far corner. Apart from another shot from Elliot that Howard saved well and some scuffed efforts from Freeman (who to me is still a quality player) they were not even in the bracket that tells me they will be even top six come May 15. Standout player for them was Flint, who is everything Collins aught to be.pommpeypommpey,*Today at 4:31 PM#7

Sorry RR but those comments aren't anything to boast about. 1 guy said we could win the league and everyone else disagreed with him.... not sure why you have titled "they" when it was just the one Sheff utd fan....

Their fans on twitter though are very very bitter. We won the game fair and square. We dominated for the first 20/25 minutes and sat back after 1-0. Invited pressure and to go in 1-1 at HT was good for us. However Sheffield united were very poor in the 2nd half, which was down to the way we played. Closed them down quick, passing was a lot neater and Smith finally stepped up, which is what we needed. I cant say or believe that after that performance we will win the league however a win at Bramall lane is a great one and im confident of a top 6 finish.

We weren't amazing, but we did a job. Who else will perform better than Sheff U at Bramall Lane this season and get 3 pts?

And to just think, our squad isn't even complete yet.

I said a week or so ago that we needed a player like Elliott in the middle, someone like that next to reed would be exactly what we need.

Not sure what people expect division 3 champions to look like.*They aren't Bayern Madrid, they won away at supposedly one of the better teams in a piss poor division.*Meanwhile 3rd and 4th favourites Preston only drew at home to Notts Crapty and Orient lost at home to Chesterford.*They had a guy on the bench who got 20 odd goals for them last season, can't be many teams at this level have that luxury.

Got to say, give it another five or so games and the season will start to pan out - and as it does so, people will start to chill out.

I really believe (Mr Basso) that we have a great set of players now, and a talented manager who is local(ish) and fired up.
I really believe that Mr Cotterill is a bit special, but thats one for the future because he has to prove himself. That he has done since the early last campaign, and today he outwitted the son of one England's finest.

Lets not get too excited, it was the first game of the season ffs. A lot of the points brought up by the blades fans were not far from the mark, they probably had the better more clear cut chances over 90 minutes, but didn't take them.

A little dismissive of us considering that whilst they had more clear cut chances, we were the away side, and we had far better ball retention and passing, to the point we got a little over confident at times and ended up playing ourselves in to trouble rather than SU breaking us down.

Gotta love the way that both managers said the goals conceded by their sides were poor from their point of view, I agree for the first 2 goals, theirs was very poor letting Little go past the last defender, and we did not defend the free kick well at all, but I feel we should get some credit for the second goal, a great flick by Wilbs which you cannot defend against, and a good low finish from Elliott which wasn't all that easy, I think Clough is being a tad harsh there.

A home defeat is always a bitter pill, and had the situation been reversed and we had lost 2-1, we would probably be saying the same things as Sheff Utd were not at all impressive, especially considering they are favourites for this division by some way and at home, I suggest they worry about their own teams deficiencies rather than have a pop at us!!

A draw would have been a fair result. Both teams should be looking at automatic promotion. Cotterill should be looking at top two, there are no excuses with the players at his disposal and the probability of further financial backing from a fabulously wealthy benefactor. It is the Man City route in miniature.

But doesn't that make it all the more satisfying and heartening for this season, that we turned a potential draw at the home of the so called champions elect and came away with all the points ?
It shows that Cotterill has created a winning mentality among the squad, and has made us difficult to beat. That is sign number one of a club on the way back.

I have a feeling we are going to enjoy our games this season. Having said that, we will probably get de-railed against Orient

Its a case of you get here what you pay for. This is a weak division and given the budget Bristol City have to sign a player of Freeman's ability the short term goal has to be automatic promotion. Bristol City should be able to deal effectively with all the opposition in this league, and given the disparity with many will monopolise the ball and inflict heavy defeats.

Players brought in, more on the way, the decks cleared of the no longer needed, job descriptions [DOF] at the club changed, Mr Cotterill in total charge of his team and a big budget with no long term strategy to adhere to anynore. Short term the expectation really has to be for fans and Mr Lansdown is promotion, nothing else should be acceptable.

Nothing but promotion will be acceptable,we have the best squad in the division.
Promotion must be won,it is not going to handed on to us on a plate, this squad should win the league.

to say anyone has seen the champions this weekend would not be wrong..... for the first 6 games teams are settling in, seeing what and how other teams play, which player /players may be much better than last etc etc etc

last season of final 6, 5 in top 6 and Brentford 9th after 6 games
season before top 6 were 6th to 15th
    before that 4 in top 6 other 2 9th 11th
and before that 4 in top 6 one in 8th and SOUTHAMPTON 22ND BEFORE FINISHING 2ND!!!! so

there is some consistency in the top 6 being thereabouts after 6 games more so the top 6 being in the top 6 as the year turns..

SO CITY IN THE TOP 6 ON 01/01/15 MIGHT JUST SUGGEST GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE PLAY OFFS!!

    Last season

    d l l d d l = 6 games 3 points the top 8 teams were already 9 points or 4 results above us..................

Original statement will be true when we are on played 40 have 80 points and the team in third is 9 points behind!
