Sanity re-established. If we are ever in for two players with the same forename simultaneously we might have to think about changing the rules, but for now...
Until today, I believe Saints could have been in for two defenders, one with an iconic first name, and another with an iconic surname. But then Spurs paid £10M for Ben Davies.
Emotions on a see-saw...definitely need some good news. Couple of good signings and we would back to envisaging the title and CL next year
That's not really saying much. If we're sitting here at the end of the transfer window with Vlaar as a replacement for Lovren, I will be very disappointed. If however we're sitting here with Vlaar as a replacement for Yoshida, then I will be very happy. And that wont necessarily mean Vlaar accepting a place on the bench each week. Firstly, every squad utilises more than two CBs. Secondly, a lot of talk is going around about us playing 5-3-2/3-4-3/3-4-1-2 etc at times any way.
So you're happy with us spending £10m on a goalkeeper (a position where we already have enough Premier League quality starters) but not happy if we buy Vlaar at centre back (a position where we don't have enough Premier League quality starters)?
That's why he'd be unhappy. Signing Vlaar to fill that void is unappealing because at one point (like, last week) it looked like we'd be getting in Rojo/van Dijk to ameliorate that shortcoming. If all of our patience ends with us missing on our primary targets and getting a guy who is a year or two from being damned near immobile, that's disappointing.
