Iâve been reflecting on quite why Redknapp seems to be so determined to play SWP in the coming season and I think that Iâve got it, and it has dawned on me that it is a masterstroke. Apart from a skilful number 10, the one thing we always seek in any QPR team is a scapegoat, the player we all love to blame for everything that goes wrong. After last seasonâs chief candidate elevated himself to cult status with his late, late winner at Wembley, Redknapp realised that he had to find a new one. Step forwards Mr Shaun Wright-Phillips. With this brilliant piece of team selection any cross that Greeno drops, any trademark lack of concentration by Ferdinand, Dunne turning like the Queen Mary, Barton hoicking a 5 yard pass straight to an opponent, Hoilett running the ball straight into touch or Austin scuffing a clear cut chance wide will simply be swept under the carpet as we all look to crucify SWP. I take my hat off to Redknapp, it is a masterstroke.
Ok Roller, Here's a challenge if he's so great. Create a 7 min Highlight vid of SWP Goals and assists from say the last 3 years. If I can watch it without laughing I will never criticise him again. Ever.
Where did I say he was great? Put this on repeat There is a serious point in there though.
I'd rather we picked our best eleven and then everyone randomly selected a scapegoat without any reasonable justification. I don't mind SWP as a person and thought he was a very exciting player but he just looks too uncertain on the ball.
SWP Turned on the Fans when the chips were down, and I Don't want to support him. I think its a bit conceited to claim posters are scapegoating SWP while attempting to remain above it all Roller whatever your point is. SWP made a couple of good turns and runs but produced nothing worth note. As is always the case. He can't win a header, He can't shoot, he can't cross and struggles to pas his man when playing 2nd/3rd rate opposition. Where is the promise in that? Even the commentator questioned weather he had the "concentration" to play left wing back. 90mins a week and he can't concentrate. I forget how many years he has leeched a living from the R's but he has done it with no grace and showing no real commitment and 1 goal, Scapegoat? "A person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of expediency" I can't remember the last time SWP needed to blamed for the failings of others as he's seems to have plenty enough of his own to be getting on with.
The difference is, SWP's very presence is an insult. He's a modern anti-footballer with no interest in playing the game- as long as he picks up a paycheque. At his age he should be looking to get first team football (or even the possibility of it) anywhere. He refused to be loaned to palace last season, and smugly went up to get a Playoff medal when he'd contributed zip. During the relegation debacle there were reports of him renouncing the club outside of the ground. I've never once felt he's truly a QPR player, or that he has any real affinity with the club. So every crappy cross and sloppy pass is additionally grating..!
But why are the media saying he did well and why does Arry pick him, yet only Norway on here also say he was good. Roller must be right.
Harry's picking him because it's preseason and he wants to give him a fair crack of the whip. He barely selected him for competitive games last season though- which is probably more telling. I thought SWP did well for the first 30 or so today, but thereafter was largely poor. Haven't seen any media reports yet
Seems to me SWP has played more pre-season games than most. It surprises me because as you say Arry didn't use him much last season, and while I don't see him as useless or a parasite, for me he must be doubtful of making the 25. Yet by the no of games he is playing he looks to be bankers for the 25 if it isn't just for the shop window.
How does the club justify itself if it doesn't include him though. What a Mess. PS. Sorry for biting so hard Roller.
No worries, maybe it was too close to the end of the match for my attempted humour. I'll stick to banning people in the future.
I have to agree with Norway........in the flesh today first I was shocked how small ( yes I know, I forgot) ... but also how gaunt he was...which I didn't remember. He has lost weight.!! He had a number of good runs and about 50 percent of this crosses were decent, more than Danny from the other side. Add into that a couple of decent tackle backs when the winger tried to get past...he seems to understand the system...worrying isn't it. Was worried where Traore was and where was Yun.. Was impressed with Mutch Was deeply worried about Charlie.....our attack only clicked after OBZ came on.....just realised I'm on wrong thread sorry
Have to say, I dont agree he was our best player today, far from it. Now I will admit I don't like him, and don't want to see him play for us, but I try not to let that get in the way of my views on his performance. He did a few nice things today, and made a few good runs, and was available to receive the ball quite a lot of the time - but he contributes very little when he has the ball. His crossing is poor, his shooting is worse (as shown by one shot he had in the first half), and I just don't think he is up to it. Other than that, he's excellent
He leaves teammates with so much to do when he passes to them too. Balls to men surrounded by players & the like. For me, Joey was the best player today
Yes I agree his first shot was special....with a clearish shot on goal, it went out for a throw in...15 foot from corner post.. Ok not our best player, but definitely not our worst...
