loved some of those runs from Watmore...That's the type of football that gets the crowd on it's feet..
Cheers mate, caught the last 8 minutes. Not exactly over-stretched, from the short bits I saw, but the injuries might be a bit of a worry.
Good result today 2-0 with Wickham scoring again, Udinese are one of the best Italian sides I believe. Just wondering why the game was not played at the stadium of light.
Head coach sums up 2-0 win over Udinese. Gus Poyet declared himself pleased with his side's performance after Sunderland ran out 2-0 winners over Italian Serie A side Udinese at Heritage Park. Two goals in as many second-half minutes from Santiago Vergini and Connor Wickham saw Poyet's men end their pre-season campaign with a victory. The most important thing is that we made a few changes but still had the shape, the understanding - Gus Poyet And the Uruguayan praised his players afterwards, with Sunderland now set to open the new Barclays Premier League season at West Bromwich Albion next week. “Udinese are a very good team who know how to manage the tempo and you need to be spot on, to not make any mistakes," he explained. “We nearly gave something away in the first half but Costel [Pantilimon] came up and saved, and from then on we were quite comfortable. “I'm not saying we were the better team by far, but we were in control of the game and knew we would have a chance sooner or later." He added: “Overall it was very good preparation and I'm very pleased with the performance.” Vergini opened the scoring just before the hour when he tapped home Jordi Gomez's corner from close range. Wickham made it two from the penalty spot just moments later after Vergini had been fouled, netting his second goal in three days. “You want to win games anyway, but when the strikers are scoring it's even better because that word confidence is always there,” Poyet continued. “Connor [Wickham] will feel fantastic to have scored. “The most important thing is that we made a few changes but still had the shape, the understanding. “We will make sure we rest tomorrow and then get ready with a full week [of training] before the season starts.”
