From the Daily Telegraph's Championship review http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...lub-by-club-guide-for-new-2014-15-season.html

    Charlton Athletic
    50/1
    Last season 18th
Key player: Simon Church. Big things were expected of Church but he has never lived up to it. This feels like a make or break season.
Best case scenario: They take confidence and momentum from last season’s successful battle against relegation and do not have to fight another one.
Worst case scenario: Having lost one of the stars of last season, Diego Poyet, Charlton struggle again and fall into the third tier.

Was it written by Maude Church?

A joke indeed, but it is on us.

Church himself must be amazed he is still in with a chance of staking a regular first team place, simply through the absence of any competition.

I have nothing against him, because he does give 100%, but he is Div One standard at best and at any seriously run club would have been on his way already.

Vetokele is in pole position, but if he fails or gets injured, with Ghoochanejhad gone and Pigott floundering, we have only Church as striker.

The standard of media reporting has sunk to a new low lately. Lazy b*stards just working with club handouts and gossip on the web, and cannot even reproduce that accurately half the time.

I never read newspapers so my bete noir is Phil McNulty, Chief Football Writer of BBC Sport. Sneering, spiteful, toadying, inaccurate and wise after the event creep. No doubt there are worse?

Let me start by saying that In spite of initially being encouraged by Simon Church signing for us, he has turned out to be a useless pile of w@nk.

However, I find the strength of some of the criticism against him from some fans quite staggering.

I wonder if these are the same supporters who blindly chanted Leeeeeeaburn Leeeeeeaburn for 90 minutes week in week out.

Completely oblivious to the fact he was the most wretched footballer in England and responsible IMO for holding us back. All the time that lanky donkey was the focal point of our attacking play we were doomed. No surprise that when he f**ked off our fortunes began to improve.

Give me Simon Church any day of the week over Leaburn. But if Mr Church is the answer for us now I'll be f**ked if I know what the question is.

Church is favourite on Paddy power when it comes to Charlton players to score first...

Love the lad's energy, but he has about as much shooting ability as Stevie Wonder has drawing

Surely your anger should be directed at Curbs, who continued to select Carl week in week out? His failing was that he didn't have a shot on him at all, nothing he could do about it, really. Leaburn was an honest pro who never hid from the ball, and if you think he was that bad, what do you think of Curbs for selecting him week after week?

8.30 on a Friday nite and that is it Paula, the best you can do, the thread been up for 4 hours and you leave us with that little Ackworth. I bet you must be a right laugh at parties, that is if you get invited to any.

Innit time for your keyboard and screen to get jet washed?

Stevie paints pictures with his wonderful lyrics. Church has no discernible talents other than his energy levels.

I'd take Carlo other Church any day of the week, even though Carlo now works as a security guard.

And a bad one at that. He had his back to the lock up the other day, heard a noise and by the time he turned round 200 flats screens had been nicked.

He also does a bit of acting as well.

Oh it was Forest...!! In answer to your question... I think Curbs decision to pick him every week was a disgrace.

Dont agree with the fact that he's our Key Player but agree with the rest of the paragraph.

He was always really highly rated when he was a Youngster at Reading and has never lived up to that potential... He's out of Contract with us at the end of the season and should he not provide the Goals (and Charlton progress / dont get relegated) then I can see him dropping a couple of Divisions quite easily

i can remember watching football on sky and the commentator Andy Gray stating that "Leaburn has been prolific for charlton, he's scored over 50 goals for them". he left out the fact it took 10 years to do that

I always liked Carl Leaburn. True, he wasn't a very good player. His goals per game ratio was embarrassing and for footballing skills he could have made Peter Crouch look like Lionel Messi.

But he was an honest grafter just like Simon Church and like it or not, you have to cut your coat according to your cloth and we aren't exactly embarrassed with the wherewithal to bring in others of greater stature.

Being fans, we moan and complain and criticise and, well, that's the nature of the game. The bottom line is, that we're stuck with it and if Phil McNulty and his ilk sneer and snide then let 'em. What does a tup'ney ha'penny hack matter..? We're Charlton Athletic, we've been there and seen it all before and we'll go on like that, seemingly forevermore.

Wake me up when something changes.
