Typical stat merchants; he got four own goals so he must be **** Trying watching what was happening for each of those own goals, it's not like he scored them intentionally. Also try watching all the goals we didn't concede because Skrtel was there!
Dudek was brilliant or bad. Instanbul was not his only high. He was a good keeper for us but he had some big off days. - I dont know why we didnt sign Begovic last summer. - I found this on twitter: please log in to view this image Fortunately we now have Can to replace Henderson if need be, and Lallana to.
Interesting to see that. I'm glad we have Can and hopefully Lallana is used in midfield, not out wide like some suggest.
So I guess it's credit where it's due from my side. Skertl deserves applause for a very good year and there'll be a hell of a fight to get 2 from 3 cbs IMO Mingolet is for me not bashing but is he good enough as frankly everything said can't be denied good or bad. We need a sweeper Kepler to play higher to press better. He ain't it and he can't kick well either.... It's an issue
All I heard last year was "judge Ming at the end of the season not half way through". Well I gave him that time and he just got worse and worse. I'd say the unstinting support for him is getting a bit silly....I've only heard 3 posters actually giving him the grief he's deserved and all 3 of us gave him the benefit of the doubt at first. He needs a good few months or guaranteed BR will push him down the order in Jan. His indecisiveness is infectious.
In fairness he was far from a disaster. However Duedk did leave because he wasn't good enough....If Ming has another season like last then he'll go the same way because it was nowhere near good enough
I actually think he's a good fit. What's the point in Gerrard sitting 10yards in front of Mignolet if they're both capable of distributing it well? More often than not, Gerrard comes to the 18yard line to take the ball off Simon anyway because Rodgers likes to build from the back. Then you've got Stevie who can't really defend too well or close down attackers, so Mignolet is a top shot stopper. The rest he'll improve on as he ages. Honestly, it's like some people expect him to be everything Reina was, plus great shot stopping, despite being far younger, new to the team and with an unsettled defense which has no leader. Really unrealistic expectations for the guy and it's unfair to criticise him as a result of that.
No that's true but he also played all season behind a constantly changing back 4. And one of those was Johnson! I know he is far from the finished article but he did make some great saves non more so than the penalty save and follow up in the first game against stoke. Think he needs to be more consistent this season. It is a make or break season for him but I think he will come good. Hopefully with a more settled back 4 and lovren leading the back line and being vocal will give him more confidence.
No. I don't think there's ever a need to buy a keeper who isn't ready and put them straight in as a starter. If he isn't ready he shouldn't be ****ing playing. Maybe if he was better at distributing it Gerrard wouldn't need to come so bloody deep. There's good reason he doesn't want him kicking the ball out and it's because his foot is shaped like a piece of Edam. Just being a good shot stopper is nowhere near enough to make a keeper any better than Championship standard. A Prem keeper should at least be able to stop shots and kick the ruddy thing. A top level Prem keeper should be a good shot stopper (yes....even against Man City), have good control, be able to deal with through balls that actually reach his own box and at least look comfortable under one cross a year. As for the unorganised defence in front of him....there's a bloody good reason they're THAT unorganised and he was a massive part of the problem....like it or not.
Not really sure I understand why you're being so aggressive in your 'discussion' and I see no point in continuing.
I sit corrected. I got carried away with too many Cans. Surely you remember when Pepe first joined us? He flapped at all and sundry for quite a while, but he got there in the end. Cheer up, yer miserable bugger. Btw, there's no capital "S" in my name.
I lie corrected I remember Reina very well mate, couldn't catch a cold in a freezer. What he could do though was look a decent shot stopper, and play with his feet, come off his line quicker than an RHC snail, improvise too but most of all during that bad spell he still believed in his own ability. Ming excudes no confidence whatsoever and that's criminal as a pro keeper. The biggest difference for me is that Ming has already played Prem football so why the need for much of a "settling in period"? One month, two or even three fair enough but he actually got progressively worse as we got better. Johnson aside Ming is the weakest link...........
Slating a CB for conceding oggies is silly unless they're calamitous errors of judgement where he pokes it past his own keeper or something. A deflection that just happens to go in when he's throwing himself across to try and block a shot is bad luck, nothing more. I fail to see how anyone can be held responsible for that. Skrtel might not be perfect, but he had a far better season than anyone else in our defence.
And towards the end what he did especially well is moan at his defence when it was he who couldnt dive either side of him to block a shot He's been good for us no doubt and stuck with us through all the **** but lets see how Mings gets on this season, Sunderlands set up was very different to our own Ive only seen Mings on TV and respect you have seen him live (lucky batard) on many occasion which does make a difference but he has also done some great saves which I think you're overlooking a tad Reina was okay for Napoli, his heart isnt in it with us anymore and Mings is, which makes ALL the difference. Blame BR or whatever but the fact remains
