I think you'll have to prepare to be unhappy then, Billy Can Can. Can you see us bringing in anyone better by next week?
Best prepare yourself because we aren't bringing in another keeper this window! If he has a good season this year, then no reason to ship him out next year.
Second "can" isn't a capital C #makesadifference I'd love us to sign another keeper (I'd even put Jones as number one atm) but it won't happen and come Christmas we'll be shutting the stable door after the proverbial bolting of the donkey....and as you know Saint I'm ALWAYS prepared to be unhappy about something
Yeah but Ming's **** Worst number 1 I've ever seen at Anfield (Westerveld being the only possible exception)
Dudek Cavalieri Itandje Gulasci Carson Jones Kirkland David James Wasn't there some useless keeper called "Martin" too? Those are just the worse keepers I can think of off the top of my head that we've fielded. Migs is miles better than any of the above! Other than Reina he's the best keeper we've had since Grobs. We've had some terrible keepers over the years.
You'd put Jones ahead of Mig And he's far from the worst. A bit of a mixed season last year, but he won us some important points last year. Who knows what would have happened if we had conceded that last minute pen and drawn 1-1 against Stoke, or conceded any of the chances he saved against Villa & United during our perfect 1-0 start to the season last year. He helped us get off to a brilliant start and then once the back 4 got disrupted and we converted to 5 at the back and then a diamond with 2 forwards, our defence and he suffered because of it.
The Mignolet bashing is getting a bit silly now. Very few keepers have great seasons in their first year at a new club. He's also young (for a keeper) and was playing behind an unsettled and constantly changed defense with a player new to the DM role who isn't really great at covering either. What did you all expect? Like someone above mentioned, judge him after this season now that he's hopefully settled in, now that Gerrard has experience in the role, now that we've (hopefully) got our commanding CB in Lovren AND some fullbacks who can, you know, defend. I think he'll be fine this season and we'll get 10 great years from him. Goalkeepers mature later, take time to command their box and distribution is just practice. His shot stopping is brilliant though and something really promising to build from.
Last season wasn't Mignolet's first season in the league though. He made the most defensive mistakes in the league last season too, even more than own goal Skrtel.
Skrtel too! I thought Skrtel was one of our best players for the last couple of seasons... he made mistakes- but he more than made up for them with some stellar performances.
He scored something like 6 goals, but scored something like 4 in his own net. That is poor for me. I am happy we signed Lovren, the only good Southampton signing we made.
I think Carra holds the alltime record for number of goals scored against Liverpool unless I remember incorrectly... Skrtel got some own goals- but he did some pretty heroic defending at times to prevent goals.
A lot of them were awkward bounces and situations where he tries to touch it, and maybe it will go wide, or in, 40/60, or he leaves it 100% goal.
Exactly... which is why some the better defenders like Carra and Skrtel have embarrassing own goal stats.
By Number 1 I meant first team keeper Kirkland I'll give you but you lot need a trip to Specsavers if you think Mings is going to be anything more than just another addition to that list. He's possibly the worst keeper for the Rodgers system I can imagine. Slow off his line, awful distribution, more afraid of crosses than Dracula and even less confident than The Waterboy.
