It's harder to bring young CBs into the first team. Experience is a very important factor in that position. He may be a more talented player than Jos, but need some competitive football at a lower level first just to get him used to it.
Last time I checked, a season lasted 38 games, not one. Might be important to the fans, but to Saints it's just another game. Get that in your head.
so much cynicism - if we can make 1 or 2 more signings before the end of the transfer window we will be in a good position - (imo a cb and a striker are higher priority purchases than another keeper at this point) - if the club make more than that then fantastic - as long as the money we have made from the sales of lallana/shaw etc is invested wisely rather than buying players for the sake of buying players - and that is what has happened so far.
Personally I believe that all games are equally important. Having a reduced likelihood of success away to Liverpool does not mean that we should be any less prepared than any other game.
I don't mind if we going into the liverpool game and lose if we battle to the end and show some grit.
Swindon wanted Stephens but I believe Koeman wants to keep him closer to the first team this season, so we've sent Jordan Turnbull instead. He went over there and played some games during a spell of 'work experience' with them, and they're happy enough with him. The Swindon chairman, Lee Power, recently said that he's been speaking to Les Reed because Swindon would like some sort of 'unofficial partnership' with Saints, whereby they help players with their development during loan spells. He said that Les wasn't usually fond of the idea, but Swindon have a very set philosophy and it's close to that of Saints - and wouldn't require players to totally uproot for a loan spell either. So we could see more on that front in the next few years.
Well if nothing else, at least this summer has helped to clear some space in the drawers. please log in to view this image
