Don't think so as we have Fonte who is currently captain and hardly likely to say I wont play with the skipper?

So what happens with the whole Legia thing, if they're thrown out and Celtic go through?

There's precedent for them to just be fined ... [BBC]

However, in 2010, Uefa fined Debrecen £15,000 but rejected a protest from opponents Litex Lovech, who wanted the Hungarian side kicked out of the tournament for fielding an ineligible player.

Debrecen argued that they fielded Peter Mate in good faith as a substitute in Bulgaria when they were leading 4-1 on aggregate.

Uefa ruled that Debrecen had "no interest in fielding this player for the three last minutes of additional time, when the score was so clearly in its favour".

We'll probably get one/both anyway. They've have the CL payday and aren't exactly going to get through the group, so best to cash in double time by selling players too.

It's highly unlikely they'll get thrown out.

Went there to read from your link and ended up noticing this Ron Vlaar saved penalty in the World Cup. But did it eventually get over the line anyway..? And what would have happened had it made the goalline system post a goal..?

They would've flagged it up, so it wasn't a goal!

So technically, the ball/play is still live after the keeper has saved it..?

Similar things have happened and been counted as goals. For example:

I think they showed Vlaar's didn't actually cross the line so it's a moo point, but still.

Yes as long as noone else but the keeper touches it. The keeper however could stop it going over the line.........if he hadn't run 20 yards away prematurely celebrating.

Yep. There are a few videos around where the keeper in a shoot out saves a penalty and turns around to celebrate before, while the keeper is facing the other way, the ball spins back into the goal and makes him look silly...

Just found this though. Don't know how true it is:

Actually, the Fifa International rules have 2 rules in favor of the keeper 1 If in a penalty shootout the keeper touches the ball, then the ball hits the ground it(The ball) is automatically a dead ball. So no matter where the ball goes it is dead. 2 If in a penalty shootout, the keeper touches the ball, and it goes closer to the kicker of the penalty it is a dead ball. So if the ball is pushed away from the goals, then it goes back into the goals with sipn alone, it is a dead ball.

Surely not? By that rule, if the keeper dives the right way, just gets a touch to the penalty and the ball bounces before crossing the line then it counts as a miss?

It would be a goal if a) it crossed the line and b) Vlaar didn't touch it again. I'm not sure either is true.

Piece in Echo suggesting that Billy Sharp will be allowed a free transfer. I am in favour of that if it helps him find a new club. We bought him for only 1.8 mill and he made a big contribution to our promotion, so he has paid us back many times. His wages and a transfer fee have made a move difficult, so makes sense to remove one of those obstacles. In general, I think it's best to clear the decks...makes no sense to have several players who will never make the first team, but occupy HR who have to sort out their situation every transfer window.
