Does that mean this cb will only sign if we get Rojo? Or that they won't?

 

I would have thought that the medical is the last stage...bit rough to do the medical and then have the team go for someone else.

 

Not entirely sure. Maybe the club would feel it wiser to keep Fonte, Yoshida and Hooiveld (final year of deal) if we shell out around £16m for Rojo.

Especially if Fonte wants to sign a new deal. Maya as cover and Jos as the cover-cover.

 

So we are interested/ trying to get Rojo, Dijk and another cb?

 

I'm completely fine with Fonte starting, but I do not want Maya at #3, and it doesn't seem as if any of the kids are backup quality just yet either.

 

Rojo, for sure. van Dijk, not so sure. We were linked some weeks back, but it's gone quiet.

But then, Celtic would like to keep it quiet if van Dijk was off to Southampton WITH Forster too, so keeping it shtum works.

 

The way Billy worded it didn't really make sense (to me anyways).

I read some dodgy article claiming that Vlaar had been warned off Saints because of the player exodus. Could this story be flipped to suggest Vlaar will only sign if he sees other players are joining too.
I believe Guan claimed something similar a few weeks ago

yeah that article was terrible, the writer should definitely avoid pursuing a profession in journalism...

 

Also, if one of them is Rojo, having Fonte/Rojo/another CB allows for the possibility of pushing Rojo to LB if the Targett/Bertrand combo isn't up to snuff.

 

Yep. Unless this Oskar Cv... Oskar dude is already a lot better than we think.

Yea I get the feeling we may end up with Bertrand backup for rojo with V.D and fonte CBs. Might be a year too early for targett

 

The feeling from Sporting fans is, despite his amazing World Cup, he's actually not very good at LB because he's crap going forwards.

Signing one CB is essential.

Signing two CBs is highly, highly desirable.

Signing three CBs would be a touch greedy, but still very useful - especially if one of them can also play full-back. Would allow us to offload Jos, whilst also not having to rely on Yoshida too much (if at all).
