Thanks for the exec summary, Cove.

"Don't get him now because you will only ruin a world class player in the making."

He will have to be an Ajax player before Spurs make their move. ;)

"According to SSN, PSV are saying that there has been no contact from Spurs whatsoever regarding Depay"

And before then, did they have any previous "SSN understands ..." for Depay reports, followed
by ad links to Skybet on the odds of him joining Spurs ...

Now that I think I understand just a tiny bit about Poch's system:

He wants a left sided attacking player who's half striker. Who could possibly fill that bill at Spurs? I'll give you a hint. He's had two goals and an assist in that role in three or four halves during preseason. What are the chances that Kane scores fifteen if he plays that role all season? Then we'd have the bright talent rather than trying to buy someone else's (Rodriquez or Depay). Depay's a bright enough talent that I'd still like to have him, but I'll bet it won't happen.

Poch likes to play two DMs at once to free up the rest of the team. So he's probably fine with Capoue, and wants Schneiderlin as the second DM. But it does seem insane to pay six or seven times as much for the DM one spot behind the one you paid 4 million for (if memory serves) on France's depth chart. What about Sandro? What about Dembele? Dembele may bring the ball up too slowly, but he's always been good at dominating in midfield and protecting the back four.

I hope Poch modifies his system enough to play to Eriksen's strengths. Poch's system doesn't feature crosses, which the stats tell us makes sense, since crosses don't produce that many goals. But crosses are one thing, and Eriksen's crosses and shots from the left are another. They produce goals at a very impressive clip.

There's always a link to Skybet, if that's what you're into.

I've checked the latest news but there is still nothing firm about Depay and the others.

The beauty of Pocho's philosophy is the forward players don't stay in one position. They are given licence to inter change with each other. Eriksen, Soldado, Lamela are all intelligent players, they will flourish under this new system.

The full backs will provide the width if necessary.

Welcome and nice to meet you, Mighty Spurs.

Do you think Soldado will start, as either the "1" or in the "3", I would think on the left?

I have a lot of trouble deciding who should play in the 3 besides Lamela and Eriksen: Holtby on merit so far. Kane just a shade behind him, and/or if Holtby starts further back, and Soldado for being one of our 11 best players even if he's not scoring.

Up front I think Poch will wisely start with Ade. He's accomplished more than our other players, is our leading veteran, was our best scorer last year, is probably our best player, and seems both the best chance for 20 goals this year and notably touchy. Start with him and get him onside with the new coach and system. Switch if it doesn't work out. Switching to Soldado or Kane or someone else later may work. Trying to switch to Ade didn't work when AVB tried it (after ignoring him).

There's been a few stories doing the rounds linking us with DeAndre Yedlin. If he did sign...

    POSITIVES
    * He looked good in the WC
    * That surely means Naughton is off
    * Low wages: his basic salary is $80k per year

    NEGATIVES
    * Keeping him and Walker happy may be difficult
    * Seriously, that haircut

I'd give Lamela a run of games. He's been looking good, and not starting him at this point may hurt his confidence, which can't be all that bulletproof. If he doesn't work out, well, try something else. About the way I feel about Ade, though for somewhat different reasons. Eriksen has to start. The other attacking player might be Kane, Holtby, Lennon or Townsend. I think I'd lean towards Kane as well, as long as Holtby will be given a run in a deeper spot. I'm not sure Soldado looks that confident, so I'm not sure it wouldn't be better to start him subbing and in the Europa. Until Ade is fully fit, he might play the second half. Bring in Lennon and Townsend late, as we can use their energy then, especially against tired defenders. Of course, I've forgotten the new Bale...start him in the Europa as well.

The rumour about Yedlin suggests that we're to sign him and loan him back.
Might be best for his development.

This isn't from knowledge, just speculation but I reckon Dempsey's move to the Sounders created a somewhat unofficial partnership with them, allowing us first pick so to speak on any of their stars.

Can't say I remember much of Yedlin but the USA as a team performed really well. If he's good enough to give Walker a push for the RB position then it's good news if he joins.

Marca are suggesting that Atletico Madrid would like to sign Soldado, but they can't afford to do so, they'd like us to loan him to them, instead.
Would they like us to buy them a new stadium, too? <doh>
