Good morning all from a showery but warm Weston-super-Mare! It's nice, but not surprising to see so many offering Leo and his wife good luck messages, to be frank, this is the main reason I spend so much time here, you are all a wonderful group of people! Have a good day!
Dearest Leonardo, you know you have my thoughts and prayers with you both today. I'll be thinking of you. Morning all
Good morning all, a beautiful summers day here. Of course we know you are wrong Dave. We are a rebellious, awkward bunch from the independent republic of Watford. I have just been reading about an event that took place in one of the villages near here on a beautiful summers day 70 years ago. The resistance had been out trying to slow the Nazi convoy who were heading north to Normandy. They were a bunch of poorly trained and equipped young men between the ages of 18 and 26, who were rounded up from the woods and hamlets, taken into the village and shot in front of all the inhabitants. The villagers who protested had the same fate, with even a 17 month old girl dying in her mother's arms. 20 of the victims were from the resistance with a further 22 civil deaths. It is good that every year these people are remembered with their names being read out to the several hundred who gather for the event. The point is made every year that the young should learn from their history, and turn their back's on violence.
And former politicians turned Middle East peace envoys whose sterling work has earned them a Nobel Peace Prize....
Good afternoon everybody. May I express my sincere thanks to all of you for your good wishes - you don't know how much it means to us. Very kind The trip as such went OK - Mrs L did not like the MRI machine as it is very claustrophobic - you have to go right inside and the machinery is inches from your face, however she went to her "happy place" and it only lasted 45 minutes. Results will take a month so we will just try to ignore it until then. p.s. I am now finalising my spreadsheet for the WPL so if you are intending to post predictions it would be very helpful if you could let me know in advance so that I can add a column for you. Don't worry if you do not get around to it - I wont miss anyone out. Thanks to those who have already "signed up" or posted predictions
The official Bolton site has a video compilation of previous games we have played against them. Naturally they only show games they won, but what was fascinating (to me, at least) was our incredibly poor defending. I'm sure we defend better than that now and our defence is supposed to be our weak point.
Good morning all from a very warm and dry Weston-super-mare! Unsettled from tomorrow allegedly! Have a good day!
Morning all from a damp Jersey, although it's not raining at the moment. FL season preview on Sky Sports 1 at 8 tonight, and Keith Andrews is on it.
Morning all, a damp start to the day here also. Looks as though we had quite a lot of rain overnight. It has been a really strange weather year and it was reported that our region had twice the normal amount of rain for July compared to the norm. Maybe that is why the potatoes have done rather well this year.
Ditto here. I'm in a lather of sweat at the moment - dropped my car off at the garage for repairs to the brakes at 7:30 and walked home - 8 miles along shoreline and cliff tops. I think I'll be catching the bus to collect it though...
Don't you just love the people who run football leagues. I mentioned a week or so ago the strange goings on in the French Championship. (Ligue 2). Luzenac Ariege a small club from a very small village worked their way up from the amateur ranks to win promotion to the professional Ligue 2. The division below is a mix of amateur and semi-pro teams. Chateauroux who had a terrible last few matches finished in 18th place and should have been relegated, but the authorities decided that Luzenac Ariege did not have the financial dossier that all clubs have to present set out to show they had the resouces to compete, so refused them a professional licence. They appealed the decision and it went against them, while Chateauroux built their squad for the season with the pro licence in tact. Luzenac Ariege did not take this lying down and took their case off to a higher tribunal in Toulouse, who ruled in their favour. Meanwhile the first game of the new season was played last Friday and the second one tomorrow. Now the league officials have called an emergency meeting tomorrow to decide what to do. They can hardly throw Chateauroux out of the league as they have set up their team and finances to suit. Could they actually have a division with 21 teams? Possibly if one team was given a bye each week. Can they find another reason to exclude Luzenac Ariege? If they do I can see it ending up in court sometime in the future. I await tomorrow to see the outcome.
