MITO rants again

I prefer the blog format to leave a preseason prediction as i can find it again.

In short I've made my annual punt at things prior to the big off so I hope you are all suitably outraged by my low expectations for our club.

For those that hate the blogs...

It’s that time again MITO goes and has a rant about how crap LFC are and who is going to do what. The format is simple, before the season starts (and in the knowledge a couple of players will join most clubs still) I predict what I think will occur. Last year I got the title winners right but Had Utd in the top 4 in 3rd and LFC in 6th.
Here goes

TOP 4 FINISHERS IN ORDER:

1. Manchester City.

I think they have a great manager and some great players but I don’t think they are a dominant side just yet. I still fancy them to win narrowly.

Why?

They’ll be hard to beat and as long as company and Yaya play they’ve got a chance.

2. Chelsea.

I think they’ll go some this season… really negative but they will go some. Matic is really strong, costa gives them a donkey ball focus and basically I think it’ll be 1 or 2 points in it.

3. Arsenal

I think wenger will have a bounce in his step this year. Sanchez gives them additional options but I feel strongly that unless a striker comes in they are still going to fall away after Christmas. Defensively they look better, central midfield is quite good but still a DM playing would be a good addition. They will need everyone fit.

4. Utd

I’m going to annoy everyone and predict that with Van Gaal and 11 defenders they will improve a lot, no Europe to worry about as well? If van Gaal gets 20+ goals from RvP? I think utd will be back.

WHAT ABOUT THE REST?

5. Liverpool.

Sorry but I am not going to put LFC in the top 4 after seeing our buying so far. Yes I think Lovern adds something at the back, yes Can add something in midfield but no we are not as good upfront and lambert and lallana don’t make sense. I predict us getting in and around the 70 point mark but think we’ve still got 3 gaps to fill at full back, striker and yes gerrard’s position. Cruel as it is I see him falling off the cliff even more

6. Everton

I think they will push LFC very very hard.. good to sign 2 of 3 loanees up but still a smaller squad but good first 11. Injuries might tell.
7. Spurs

Sorry but much upheaval again and yet to really make a mark means everyone else seems to be improving. They will transition and improve from here over time but for now Its reasonable to expect everyone else has improved enough since last year to make this prediction.

THE CUPS:

Last year I predicted the top 6 would share the cups. In fact the top 4 did.
This year I quite fancy it will be similar. It’s absolutely impossible to predict cups due to the luck of the draw BUT.. I fancy that Everton, liverpool, Chelsea and City would be the most eager to impress

For the league cup i am going to give a shout out to Everton. I just fancy Martinez for a win as he’s shown he knows the value of it.

For the FA cup then. I think Chelsea historically love the thing so I’m going to predict that if the CL doesn’t interfere they might just do it. Could be a city v cheslea final!

EUROPE:

The way things have gone its getting had to predict anything in Europe.
Manchester City, Cheslea, Liverpool and Arsenal play CL
Tottenham, Everton and Hull play Europa

My predictions will be:
CL:
Manchester City and Cheslea will qualify top of ther groups and reach the QFs
Arsenal may finish first but I do not fancy them at this point unless they buy a striker. Last 16 exit
Liverpool will be at best 3rd seeds so I feel qualification form the group… just as city found in previous years… will be tough thus leaving bias aside and looking at lambert and sturridge then 3rd may be our best bet and a Europa entry
EL:
Tottenham to fall in the first round after group stage. Groups are easy but tottneham don’t care it seems.
Everton: last 16 at best
Liverpool: I predict a quarter to semi final type finish.
Hull exit at group stage. This is goig to be onerous travel on hull. They might go on but they’d be wise to not do so.

RELEGATION:

Its hard to predict. Honestly there’s usually a side that panics, a side that just disorganized and a promoted club that shocks everyone
For me the club that panics and makes a bad sacking or bad appointment is hard to predict. Last year Cardiff and fulham both did this.
However as we stand today:

West brom look like they have some trouble. I think most will have them in their predictions right now
Aston villa look like a huge concern to me, Lambert is on last chance and the summer looks wasted, Keane is in behind him ready to jump in and it could be chaos.
Swansea look unimproved and unimpressive and the manager doesn’t inspire yet. We’ll see as form was not good
Southampton are on a fire sale with nobody coming in.
Sunderland have not improved yet either
Of the promoted clubs:
Leicester
Burnley
QPR
By far the least organized club is QPR. Harry redknapp was 2 minutes from retirement wasn’t he? They have a squad all over the place and I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
So that’s more than a third of the prem in danger to my mind today

I'll have to call it but it’s a pure guess. I feel the bottom five will contain Villa, west brom, Swansea, Sunderland and Burnley.

I’ll go for Swansea, West brom and Burnley. Just as a pure guess. Really it could be any of 8/9 clubs.

If we don't sign a striker and a full back (don't believe Moreno till I see him leaning or sitting on the loo) then I agree.

However, I'm still hopeful Rodger will pull a rabbit out of the hat in the next few weeks... and that rabbit will convince him to sign a striker.
