Swansea eye Federico Fernandez transfer as Argentina World Cup centre-back is unsettled at Napoli Swansea are ready to splash out £8million on Napoliâs Argentina World Cup centre-half Federico Fernandez. The Swans' chairman Jenkins has made a bid for the classy defender who wants to quit Rafa Benitezâs Italian club to play in the Premier League. Fernandez was a key part of the Argentina squad in Brazil, where he started three matches before injury forced him out of the latter stages. But Fernandez is unsettled in Serie A, where he has been in and out of the Napoli side for the past two seasons. The tall 25-year-old was even sent out on loan to Getafe in Spain at one stage to keep him sharp. Fernandez did become a more regular starter last season, but his sights are set on a move - and Swansea are keen to buy. He looks a ready-made replacement for Chico Flores who has clashed with Monk in the past and is following former Swans bass Laudrup to Qatari club Lekkyweeki. Swansea are also interested in Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...rico-fernandez-transfer-4003775#ixzz39h122Agk Follow us: @DailyMirror on Twitter | DailyMirror on Facebookhttp://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/swansea-eye-federico-fernandez-transfer-4003775#ixzz39h0gJUu3 Follow us: @DailyMirror on Twitter | DailyMirror on Facebook
Allowing Chico to leave so close to the season is surprising, so I would assume that Huw and Monk have a "ready made" replacement in mind. If Fernandez is available at £8m, and if Chico's transfer realises circa £4m, then a net outlay of £4m to recruit a current Argentinian international would seem good business to me.
Why sell Flores for £4 million , he has to be worth more than that ,I'd add at least another 3 to that figure .
Over the years Joey Barton was probably worth more than his transfer fees as a player but his temperament went against him and I suspect it's the same with Chico.
A player's value to a very large extent depends on the years remaining on his contract. If player A has a year left and player B has 3 years left, then player B may cost more even though he's a worse player than player A. I think many fans forget (or don't understand) this, as you often hear fans say things like... player B got sold for £10m, so why are we selling player A for £5m. The answer is often in the time remaining on the contract. So make sure you're comparing like with like.
its also down to the players 'worth' to the club - and de-stabilizing our defence, and 'hoping' another player steps up to the mark is a huge risk on the $60m its worth to stay in the PL. You could say this about any player - but the two central defenders are arguably the most critical when a relationship is formed, and working well. Most teams would only sell a 1st choice centre back in desperate times, or when an existing squad player is displacing that 1st choice due to improved performances. Fair enough he may want out - but so it seems does a large part of our squad - and since under contract we can always say NO. Liverpool proved this with Suarez - what sort of season would they have had last year if they buckled and sold Suarez - certainly doubt they would have been anywhere near as successful!! For me - Chico is too critical to remove this season - even more than Bony. We can get goals from midfield, and other strikers - but if your defence is not up to standard - your screwed. If he wants out - then say he can leave next year at a reduced fee (so he gets more £££ signing on elsewhere), and we maintain stability, and can groom his replacement this season imo - giving time for a relationship to be formed.
Sad to see him go but wouldn't describe him as critical. He didn't feature in any of our last 4 games last season, three of which we won.
Like taff says , the money we git for Chico will soften the blow for Fernandez.I love getting an unsettled player from another team . They usually are going110 % to prove the last team wrong. Start earning your money Huw and get him...
Napoli and Argentina defender Federico Fernandez is on the verge of a €10m move to Swansea City. The transfer had already been in the works during negotiations for Michu, but according to the Corriere dello Sport that move is now ready for completion. It’s reported Swansea are prepared to pay €10m (around £8m) for the Argentina international centre-back, who featured in the World Cup.
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/swansea-city-boss-garry-monk-7589556 Monk hopeful on Fernandez deal, he's also allegedly putting the blame with JDG for wanting more time to decide if he wants to come here or go elsewhere and that's the reason we've moved on to other targets. Let's hope these deals are done by Wednesday so they can be in the squad for Utd and more importantly, Burnley in two weeks.
Federico Fernandez has NOT flown over as reported, in fact he is in the Napoli team to play PSG in a friendly.
Apparently he watched the game yesterday on his ipad on the way to the airport. Cant think why he got the taxi driver to do a quick u turn!!!
