Iconic third strip is back after a 20-year absence. After an absence of 20 years, Bristol City has brought back the much-loved purple and lime shirt as a third alternative strip for the 2014/15 campaign. The colours are most famous for being on the kit City wore when they defeated Liverpool at Anfield in January 1994. City actually had two purple and lime strips during the early 90s, but not since 1994 have they sported those colours in a competitive match. Andrew Billingham, chief executive of Bristol Sport, told bcfc.co.uk: âItâs been clear that there is a real desire for the club to have a purple and lime kit once more and weâve been able to deliver a terrific kit which Iâm sure will be very popular amongst supporters. âIn honour of that historic game at Anfield, weâve got one purple and lime shirt to give away. With every City shirt purchased youâll be entered into a prize draw to win it!â *
Not fussy what they wear(apart from blue and white quarters)as long as it brings us three points every game
I love that purple & lime kit - I used to wear it to football training - the Liverpool fans in the team loved it to!!!
Good that its the third kit. Those who went and there are not many that many REALLY stuck with won't look back at that time one game apart as a golden time to be fond of. More went to Anfield than City were getting at home week to week. It also looks vile.
Celebrating one game amongst what was going on is a bit tin pot. You are obviously a young un but it was an awful time with banners at matches saying KEW OUT OSMAN OUT SORT IT OUT. Away support non existent home support dissolving. Osman dropped Jackie for players who went on to play for Bath City and on it can go.
I'll be alright - I've got my thick glasses on Don't they know that Purple and green doesn't go with red ? It makes us look like we have been ordered to wear pyjamas because we forgot to bring our kit ?
Colourful. Good for the TV at least- I often wonder with some of these away kits. You see many sides wear them even when there is no apparent colour clash. I recall Brighton in particular playing in a black and green kit against us. Quite why, I am not sure as Blue and White hardly clashes with red? I take it there is some kind of contractual arrangement to wear the kit a certain number of times?
I am not overjoyed about this kit being re-introduced but at least it is only for one game (?). I am a dyed in the wool traditionalist and for that reason alone, I like the white/black away kit very much. If we must have a third kit, why not use the claret and amber colours that were Bedminster's before the amalgamation with Bristol City way back in 1897 to highlight the part that Bedminster FC played in our history.
Not fond of gimmicks and this is one that has returned. The colours were not popular along with the club at that point which introduced it. If City wanted to honour that particular game they could commision an artist to do so. Hpefully this 3rd kit will be worn once and that will be it.
The #purpleandlime kit has been extremely popular - we have now sold out of medium and large - more stock will arrive next week a tweet from Bristol sport I know there are fans who dislike the third strip but it seems very popular with the fans
