I think they have just taken a quote from a much bigger interview where he is saying that DG's replcement could be internal or external. He is just issuing a challenge to the likes of Deeney to step up and prove they are good enough to be first choice! I expect we will get in at least one more striker. Maybe one permanent and one on loan (Weimann?). I suppose it depends on who is available and at what price!
i suppose it also depends how he sees the priorities. He might want to spend more money on a left back, and so save on strikers..
If Seano expects anyone like Troy Deeney to step up into the shoes of DG then we are truely rubber ducked, I like the lad but he couldn't hit a barn door if he was standing next to it! I would imagine that we need at least 4 wily old Championship players to help us stay in the CCC this season.......someone mentioned Kev Phillips earlier, him and 3 others who aren't going to cost the earth will keep us up Loan signings, youth and players from the lower leagues are not going to be successful this coming season! Thoughts?
I don't agree with you about TD, i think he's going to come into his own this season, and in the position he was playing last season, he was great, doing what was asked of him and working really hard. Yes, we need back up without a doubt, but lower league signings have often done us well, no reason this season should be any different. imho
Worst case scenario, I can see Troy Deeney being Danny without the goals. If you remember how few DG was scoring in the middle to back end of his first season, it's amazing how few people were calling for him to be dropped. Quite a lot more suggested that he be rested, but very few didn't think he was worth his salt. That said, even if Deeney does make up for the loss of Danny's presence, even if Sordell betters this season's tally, and even if Massey comes of age, we are still a striker short.
If Sean Dyche looked in my house he would find a lot of books and beer but no replacement for Danny Graham.
