Now that we are in the Championship? With a desperate shortage of senior playing staff surely our new owners resources should be invested in building a squad of depth and quality ? Thoughts fellow blues? SB3
At the moment we don't need a new or extended stadium. The main reason is that we can't even fill Fratton Park, our average attendance last season was around 16,000, which is embarrassing really, especially as some pompey fans label us as the 'best' fans in the country. Our away support is among the best and i love travelling away, but our home support is pretty poor and the atmosphere there is not the best at the moment either. Its about time people really showed their support and turned up to matches. Also we need to concentrate on building our own training ground facilities and also invest in our academy. I think these should take priority over a new stadium at the moment, as well as investing in the squad.
Even if we don't increase the capcity we need to modernise. Whilst I love the old place is way past its sell-by date. It's a bit of a chicken and egg scenario - why modernise when we can't fill it vs if we don't modernise we won't attract more people. I don't know what the critical mass is, but my guess is that a successful Pompey with a modern stadium would attract 20,000 to 25,000 for the average game, with 30,000 plus for the big games.
It's our FA Cup and no one can take it away from us- 1939 -2008 In the final 1929, 1934 and 2010. Go away scummer and think about it.
I believe it is spelled "thicko", so you have rather given the game away. Oh, and Mr Funkdaddy, just for the record, I think I can speak for all Saints fans in that we care not at all about what Pompey won something 70 odd years ago!
Just ignore him WD...........He is no more than an A*s wipe!! Channon I think he was having a go at Tourette!
Back on topic, would you get an atmosphere like this in a shiny new goldfish bowl? I know what I prefer. You can not beat a burger in a bap and a cup of hot bovril at half time either! Prawn sandwiches yuk........... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pic6ZmjjIqw
I'd rather see Fratton Park renovated rather than move to a flat-pack MFI stadium. The 90 deg project looked promising, but, as mentioned above, the playing staff needs top priority at the moment; we do afterall need a side that will attract crowds of 25,000+ to justify spending £Lots on expanding!
I love walking into Fratton and seeing the traditional stands-built-around-the-pitch way. This way it allows the Park to be updated but not completely and utterly re-vamped, which I like. These modern stadiums, however nice they look, aren't really for me. But saying that, I still would greet a new stadium with open arms
The 90 degrees turn project is the most favourable in my eyes. Giving the room to extend the Milton End, re develop the south and north terraces - but keeping the tudor front. Filling in the corners if needed (can be a second project), and then if ultimately needed, extending the fratton end to another tier. This would give us the updating the FP needs - essentially 3 brand new stands with the addition onto the Fratton End and enough room to sort out the surrounding areas. Can we assume that the ownership of the land has been sorted? Or does Gaydemek still own it? Has anyone got any confirmation?
I believe the Russians may have already an agreement in principle with SG as a pre-condition of the club purchase.
Something like - if you want to build on SG land, then you pay per squre metre? lol - seems a bit odd that the land around wouldnt have been part of the deal also - possibly why the take over dragged out of 3 months?
