What would £50m do though Eddie? Buy a couple of £5-6m players and their wages for 3-4 years each and that's it. Celtic play in a league where the money involved is paltry. This means we are no longer on the same footing as in the past, money talks and we don't earn enough to compete in Europe. I've said it before and I'll say it again; Celtic have no God-given right to be competing in Europe and spending money on players.
I would argue that is all we want. We all know the situation, thats why im saying it would have to come out of Desmonds pockets and it would likely be disappearing into the abyss. In the long run it may be meaningless but you never know who you could unearth and the fans would love it. Hes not obliged to do something like that, nor should he be. If I was in the position to be able to do that I would, but some people value money a bit more than me, and maybe dont have the same Celtic upbringing.
I almost agree with that, my heart says that would be enough to lift the mood a bit but my head tells me that's it's impractical and, in the long term, infeasible. Simply because then the likes of Stokes (and others in the first team) would put in a shift every game looking to get on the higher wage bracket that the £5-6m guys are on. Before you know it Celtic have a similar situation to 10 years ago where the wage budget was out of control.
**** spending someone else's money, what happens if it goes tits up for him and we are stuck with running cost we can't afford. We've got it good compared to anyone else in Scotland and the occasional season of overachieving will have to suffice us. In a few years we will be a lot closer to the Aberdeen and Dundee Untied's than Man U and Benfica's. It might sound grim but I think its better than running away with the league by 50 points.
Aye while we're discussing the merits of financial responsibility on the Celtic board you're greeting like a wean about HMRC persecution over in the House of the Dead. Coming home to roost right enough
McAvennie is an imbecile, I can't bear Radio Clyde when he's on it, he talks a right load of ****e. Some wee Ned off a scheme would make more sense so i'm afraid I don't care what he says.
