That must have been one of the worst and most futile feelings a man could feel; those moments before going over the top.....
Yup. A very high death rate. Whole sections being wiped out with the old 'walk slowly to the enemy' tactic adapted. A proper ****e war, as was 2.
Wish someone would turn Lynton Crosbie's lights off: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ontrast-David-Cameron-s-handwritten-note.html No day is too solemn for the Toryshite to score points on. Even palpably false ones like this. Btw, Louise mensch as the angered moralist - she who nobbled a Commons Committee for Murdoch then decamped to the Sun on a nice sinecure. Democracy - this is what you died for, lads.
I remember a sound film where Daniel craig played a sergeant in the trenches, and just before they went over the top Danny Dyer (I think) drank all the company's rum. Great, but bleak film.
A very, very sad day. If you want a film which demonstrates the utter futility and lunacy of war, try 'Paths of Glory' by Stanley Kubrick. Truly horrifying. Wonderful performance by Kirk Douglas.
Epitomised by the total idiot that was Haig. He sent literally hundreds of thousands over the top to be slaughtered. He should have been hung for his actions.
As usual all mouth and no thought. If Haig should have been hung, then how about Joffre, Nivelle, Petain and Foch. If that's not enough let's throw in von Hindenberg and Ludendorff. BTW you also missed out French. Ever even occur to you that nobody had fought such a war before and that tactics and strategies that these field officers understood no longer held good?
Yes me too mate These men were just so brave and well, what can you say? They must've had balls like bowling balls Thankyou to all of them
I'm not the first nor will I be the last to call Haig a criminal. He was a buffoon, who notably described the machine gun as a "much over rated weapon". Not a surprise that you're defending a belligerent, "2nd rate" fool like Haig though, lol.
