You are not comparing like with like at all You need much, much more context than this Just for one example - Poyet had from October 13 to deal with his team, Magath had from mid-February and Adams had just five games. I don't disagree with the statement that Magath did not impress - but equally he did not unimpress me. Their squad situation was much more of a shambles than even Adams took on It is simply that those 12 panicky premier league games is nowhere near enough to base an opinion that a manager is poor, particularly one with Magath's record of progress after a TO. I think you're conflating that with us saying that Magath will be a success.
they were doomed when he took over and he actually nearly did keep them up. his record throughout his career is very decent. he's won league titles. to simply dismiss him as not good enough for the championship is beyond belief. poyet had a transfer window remember - magath didn't. and i agree with rob, sunderland's end of season run was a once in a lifetime thing. they were diabolically bad against us just a few weeks earlier. they got a little momentum and it carried them through. play out that scenario ten times over and they'd have gone down the other nine.
I was asked why I didn't rate him. I think his squad was good enough, he never even tried to sort his defence because they carried on as before. 12 games is plenty to make a good impression. Doing it over 50 games is far more difficult. I never saw in him an aura of a decent manager, much like Soljskaer.
Fair enough, you must be teeming with confidence about this coming season then given how poor the managers of two of the four or five favourites are!
