Nice try! You ranted about THINKING I was saying you needed a new number 1 and backed it up with how good Szcz is, when in reality I was merely pointing out that at seasons end the GK position was one you needed strengthening in. Right or wrong? You say that everyone is talking about needing a DM and striker, and try to use the point that I said the same as somehow being so obvious that it means I am wrong!! LOl And if you still believe you lost the big games to rivals due to 'lack of pace', or 'offering no counter', then you are clearly either deluded or an idiot. A number of your fellow fans have conceded that it is much bigger than that, the fact you were well behind within the first 15-20 minutes shows you that, injuries or not, there are bigger issues there in your squad that have still to be addressed.
I don't think you are ready to launch a serious title challenge no! Chelsea have strengthened well, in areas that cost them dear last season, Man City have added to what was already the best squad in the League. Whilst Arsenal have mostly (aside from Sanchez) brought in replacements for exiting players. I will say that at this stage you will finish above Liverpool. For me it will be 1) Chelsea 2) Man City 3) Arsenal 4) between Utd, Liverpool, and Spurs
I'm not sure how much weight your opinion really holds. I cant see how leading the league for 3 months last year wasn't a "serious title challenge" and I cant see how we have got worse. I realize though that you set the definitions of all these subjective terms, but I assure you that any team that is going to challenge for the title is taking Arsenal seriously. Not something you guys have to worry about though.
He said you won't mount a challenge this season (nothing about last season), because others have improved. And nowhere did he say that you got worse. He said Sanchez was an improvement but the rest were like for like, not worse, not better.
Sanchez is a big improvement for us, there were some games last season which we didn't win because of a lack of fire power, games we should have won, Chelski home is one good example of that, we needed more firepower, and we have got that. And there's still 3 weeks to go in the transfer market, lot's of time to get a DMF, .
Also against Man Utd, they were there for the taking both home and away and we failed to score in both games.
Walcott for me was a huge miss for us last season, if he was fit for most of the season then we would have got a lot closer to winning the league. Bringing Sanchez in has added that pure class to our front line, which was missing last season. But despite bringing in Sanchez, we will still need Walcott to be fit and playing for us this season. Against the top sides, we will need to have that plan B to break down defences and having someone like Walcott running at defences will open it up for Sanchez etc to exploit.
We also have Ox and Campbell who can do a similar thing, but I agree Walcott was a big loss last season.
They can do a similar thing but Walcott is a touch of class above them. He is not only quicker but he is our best finisher. No doubt the other two are very good players, but Walcott is more experienced and has that ability to pull off something special on any one occasion. Having Ozil feeding him will only make more dangerous and give our attack that more potency. If he can stay fit for most of the season, he will guarantee us over 20 goals and a shed load of assists.
He's only got over 20 goals once and that was only because of 5 league cup goals in 2 matches (Reading and Coventry). Top season for league goals is 14. Not sure 20 goals is guaranteed.
Yep I agree. He's a quality act and a very dangerous player. Let's hope he can stay fit this season. To be honest, he is pretty much over his injuries, he was very unlucky last season with the ACL but the injuries that plagued him when he first joined us with his back and shoulders seem to have thankfully finished.
You have to bare in mind that playing in different positions, players and systems has hampered his development. During the 12/13 season when he scored over 21 goals and 16 assists, he was starting to show his true potential. Starting off last season he had a good start with 5 goals and 5 assists from 13 league games but got injured. He is a lot more comfortable with playing on the right side for us and has adapted to his role that Wenger has given him. He was also being played in his more favoured central position during the 12/13 season where he found a lot of luck scoring a hatrick. I'm looking at his performance trajectory for us, and what I see of Walcott is that he has greatly improved as a player. There is a lot more to his arsenal than just pace, he times his runs better, links up play better, has better ball control and knows when to cut in and go for goal. When we were struggling for goals from Giroud last season, Walcott would have given us that threat up front had he not been injured. Also note that he has better personal around him, with Ozil and Sanchez feeding him, he will get a lot more chances than ever before.
Oh, the line is that we have improved less than other teams? This keeps getting better! I thought that was so clearly false that only a complete twat would claim it. My mistake! ...or perhaps not?
Wasn't my argument, but so far your only potentially exciting buy is Sanchez - other than that you've only swapped 1st and 2nd choice right backs - or have I missed one? Your improvement hangs on one player, Chelsea and City have added 2 or 3 top players, not sure how that is the argument of a twat. If Sanchez really works out, then he may make up for that, but it's reasonable to think it might go the other way?
Do you think that you'll get another striker in before the season starts? Or is Wenger looking to use Walcott in that position?
I don't think we'll buy anymore strikers. We've got a front three which will be contested between Cazorla, Campbell, Podolski, Giroud, Sanchez, Sanogo, Oxo and Walcott
I don't imagine we'll see Walcott upfront that often, mainly I reckon we'll see Giroud and Sanchez share the central spot, with Campbell and Sanogo appearing in cup games and the like. Walcott will then be the right forward/winger
