QPR ready to see off Newcastle with improved offer for Loic Remy Posted by Steven Deeks - August 3, 2014 - All News, Liverpool, Transfer News and Gossip QPR are ready to see off Newcastle with an improved offer for their striker Loic Remy, whose £8m move to Liverpool collapsed last week, according to reports. Boss Harry Redknapp has recommended the board offer the hitman a new deal that doubles his wages to around £70,000 a week as he seeks to address his striker shortage with the new season less than two weeks away. But the French striker is reluctant to sign a new deal with Rangers because it would change the release clauses in his contract. Remy, though, is only likely to renegotiate with the newly-promoted west London side if no other side makes an offer for him. Newcastle are currently weighing up making a move for the player they had on loan but have yet to make a firm bid. Redknapp believes the club will be getting a top-class striker who is already on their books for nothing and would regard Remyâs increase in transfer fees as more than worthwhile if his goals keep QPR in the Premier League.
This is already on the other Remy thread but it remains an interesting story. I wondered how much significance there is to the fact that Remy stories are on the official web page. With the improved PR at the club, I would have thought they would be loathe to get hopes up by having him on the offish unless they were reasonably confident that he would be staying. Nothing is definite but....
I'm sure he was supposed to be on around £70k when he joined, I wonder if there was an interesting twist to his release clause that included his wages dropping if we went down, that way he couldn't bleed us dry if no one came in for him and we were stuck in the championship for a few years paying his wages! If there is any truth in the story then upping his wages to take out the release clause would be a good move.
If his wages were significantly less than those reported over the past year and a half then he'd have already gone - a release clause and relatively low wages would mean that he'd have been offered better and been sold rather than a loan. He also wouldn't have stalled over terms with the likes of Arsenal if he was on a pittance(!) like 35K.
The reported amount of his wages have always been between 70-80k a week, I'm sure he'd have been at least equal to the highest earners when he joined. I doubt there's any truth to the story, so far we've seen that the club seem hell bent on rectifying their mistakes of silly contracts, but could Remy be just too lucrative to have in the side? We'd never be able to afford another playing of similar skill and proven ability in the Premiership and if there is even a snippet of truth to the story, it would mean renegotiating the buy out clause which could work in our favor. I for one think Remy will at least start the season playing for us, it will just be a very nervous 2 weeks afterwards watching the clock tick towards 11pm on the 31st August, cause I just can't believe that there isn't a club out there that wouldn't match Remy's demands, the signing on fee, even at it's top level of 15 million would be cheap for a striker of his quality, making the wages more acceptable.
To be honest, I wouldn't turn my nose up at wins in the first 2 weeks due to Remy goals and then say cheerio to him. Of course I would like to keep him but if he could get us off to a winning start in the first 2 weeks, I'd be happy.
Heaven only knows what we paid Chris 'Save me from the Racism' Samba during his 6 month break from hell, but wasn't it around the 100k a week mark. Club will only pay it to an asset with a commensurate value. Remy does have that.
