It's a great lesson in business too. Always know the name of the receptionist if you re-visit a customer. Make people feel Like kings and queens. And you're right Dan, it costs nothing but so mean people forget to take that with them.

Exactly. I don't think it ruins the mystery FLT! She IS incredibly nice, caring and smart.

That's just one of the ways in which she's smart.

David Gilmour is the same - he's unfailingly polite, and you think he's happily chatting away to you, when you realise that he's never once used your name. It's manners, but it's also boxing clever.

The games closing ceremony was going fine, but now it`s turned into the Kylie Show.

Yup. As you said, important in business and in all walks of life. Whenever she used to call up to the office to speak to my boss and I used to pick up, she was the only one to say "Hey Dave Laces, how's things" etc and engage me in conversation rather than just asking for the boss.

Well, her, and Damon Albarn actually.

Dale Carnegie talks about it in 'how to to win friends and influence people', it's old but works

I've only made 15 posts on this thread so far. No wonder there's actually a conversation which lasts multiple pages and makes sense. Don't worry, Joe's here now to put that right.

On the older women thing, six days older than me is the oldest I've gone. :(

Yep, but nearly every week I stand in a reception area (yes, stand) and watch a visitor come in and be a complete dick to the receptionist or person who they first speak to. It is unbelievable. It's as if they're too important.

I hereby declare your challenge. You're 24? Needs to be 10 years. Go out my young Jedi and find an older Sith lady to show you the ways of the Dark side.

I've always made an extra effort to be nice to customer service reps because I know they spend their days getting yelled at for things that aren't their fault.

Yep. I try to be as nice to them as possible, especially if I'm complaining or something is wrong.
