That's exactly the reason why Jose was never offered the job at Old Trafford. Too much negative football, and scrape a 1-0 win. Last year was a failure under Moyes, but it could have been a lot worse with Jose and all his baggage
I think Jose would have had short term success at OT before overseeing a complete implosion of the club. The club wanted someone for the long term so Jose would never have been considered. Moyes may have been a disastrous mistake but there's no doubt he was seen as a long term appointment, something Jose could never be considered. It's no surprise that Van Gaal has been brought in to clear up Moyes's mess as he has a history of bringing structure and a philosophy from top to bottom at the clubs he's worked at so he will be expected to build for the future. Jose's only interest is in the first team and what he can win in his 2-3 year tenure. Really Chelsea should have dominated English football after Jose started blowing Roman's millions and before City became the rich boys. As it turned out they had relatively limited league success after Jose was sacked as the plethora of new managers had to start all over again which was difficult under an owner who demanded immediate success. Look at Chelsea's academy, it should be one of the best in Europe but it develops absolutely no first team players for Chelsea. Jose's a great manager but he's patently not a United manager.
Exactly what I have been saying for ages Madinat. Jose wanted the job, but thank goodness common sense prevailed. Jose's ego is way to big for United, and it's only a matter of time before him & the Ruski will have another fall out, probably when his boss buys a player without asking Jose. I give it until Xmas
Loads of managers turned down united, Mourinho, Ancelotti, Klopp, Alladyce etc. Moyes was the only one left, but he was treated disgustingly at united. Mourinho's ego big? Must of gotten it from Van Gaal.
Matic >> Fabregas Imo. Just watch the Serbia vs Brazil game where he single handily dominated the midfield.
Purley, with comments like yours may I suggest you teach your arse to sing. The only reason Jose went back to Chelsea was when he realised he was NOT WANTED at United. Moyes was a mistake, that hopefully will be fixed with LVG, but at no stage did I want to see Jose in charge. I stand by that , despite the year of failure by Moyes
Any proof? Or do you just ready the newspapers and instantly believe anything? You didn't want Mourinho because he starts fightd within the dressing room... Wait a minute, isn't that the exact reason Van Gaal was sacked from Barcelona and Bayern? I know it hurts that all the top managers turned you down but that's life, mate
Any proof that Jose turned United down? If you're going to base your argument on what you read in the press or Chelsea forums then you're not going to come across as very credible. There was much more speculation in the press that Jose wanted the United job but wasn't offered it than him turning the job down. In fact it was widely reported that Jose was only considered after Guardiola turned Chelsea down as he didn't like the way the club is run. Jose is at the perfect club for him. He has one more season to prove himself and at most two more to see out. I'm not sure where he'll go after Chelsea as he's loathed in Spain and Italy. Maybe Germany but he'd want the Bayern job and that club would never want a manager like Jose in charge. Perhaps he'll have to take the Portugal job earlier than planned and then become a professional controversial media clown.
I'm not credible because i base my argument on newspapers/forums, but isn't that what you're doing now? Jose was one of the first people to know that ferguson was quitting, bit strange, isn't it? You just can't fathom the thought of top managers (Ancelotti, Mourinho) turning the great united down.
Jose made that claim after he was asked whether he was disappointed not to be offered the United job. It would have been simpler to just say no rather than come up with a story that he can't substantiate! Perhaps he could have said "na na na na na I don't care"! I'm sure managers have turned United down over the years but I'm afraid Jose wasn't one of them. Why is it so important for you to believe it? Does it give you some kind of big club validation? Be honest, why would he go back to Chelsea unless he had no other options. His exit last time was humiliating in so many ways. I suspect Jose was desperate to manage United. He's managed one of the biggest clubs in Portugal, Spain and Italy. It would make sense for him to add England to the set.
