Loic Remy, Charlie Austin, Bobby Zamora and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson could lead the Queens Park Rangers line this season.




The latter has been continuously linked with a move to Loftus Road this summer, making it seem more like a case of ‘when’ rather than ‘if.’ Zamora and Austin, meanwhile, will both be part of Harry Redknapp’s squad for the coming campaign, with Remy also looking like he could end up staying in west London.

Liverpool pulled out of a deal to sign the Frenchman at the last minute, citing problems during his medical, meaning Remy is fast running out of suitors if he is to part company with Redknapp and co.

As things stand, then, the quartet could be the men Rs fans look to for goals, after a campaign in which QPR scored just 60 times in 46 games (and the season before that just 30 in 38). Will they be good enough to keep their side up?

Remy – Hit

As far as QPR fans are concerned, the presence of 27-year-old Remy is a stroke of luck not many would have anticipated. The Frenchman has been linked with a move away from Loftus Road more times than one cares to remember, while Newcastle boss Alan Pardew says he is interested in bringing the striker back to St James’ Park after his loan spell there last term.

With clubs from the top four out of the running, however, QPR could be in pole position to keep Remy this season. If they do, they have their main man. Remy scored 14 Premier League goals for the Magpies last year and a similar total would be welcome in west London this time around.



Austin – Hit

If would be remiss of Redknapp to forget about Austin, though, regardless of Remy’s quality. And it’s a safe bet that the Rs boss has the 25-year-old firmly in his plans for the forthcoming campaign.

QPR’s top scorer last season, Austin’s place in Redknapp’s squad needs no explaining. The key for a side battling against relegation is how their star players compare to those from teams of a similar ranking. Could Burnley, Leicester, Sunderland, West Brom or others confidently say they have a forward far superior to Austin? No, quite simply, they couldn’t.



Zamora – Jury still out

In Zamora, on the other hand, QPR have a less prolific alternative. Yes, the positives are there. The 33-year-old scored the goal that ensured the Rs’ Premier League status and has top-flight experience in abundance.

With age, though, come fitness fears – as well as the worry that Zamora is over the hill. With only Remy and Austin on the books, of course, it made perfect sense for Redknapp to offer the veteran striker a one-year deal. He could chip in at vital times for the west London side and may prove a match-winner either from the start or off the bench. If Redknapp wants to play with two up front, however, Zamora will have to offer plenty to prove that he can still compete at the top level.

Sigthorsson – Risky move?

Similar fears have been expressed over Ajax striker Sigthorsson, who could be on his way to QPR before the new season. The 24-year-old is relatively young and a goal scorer – he scored 10 Eredivisie goals last term – but is not perhaps the top-class forward many fans would like to see at Loftus Road.

If Remy and Austin can stay fit throughout the season, the pressure will be off Sigthorsson and Zamora. But if the Iceland forward is called upon and finds it hard to adapt to the physical demands of the Premier League, questions will be asked of the fee that could see QPR pay close to £5 million for the 24-year-old.

Can Remy, Austin, Zamora & Sigthorsson keep QPR up?

 

Would it be fair to say that at least one, maybe two will be injured at any given time throughout the year?
I'm not trying to be negative, just realistic.
When you consider form, injuries and players rested from too many games, you would think we need at least four, if not five strikers.

To answer you question ............... No, we need more back up.

 

A bigger concern is who is going to create the chances for our strikers that we have/might have. Hoilett,Henry,SWP,Faurlin and O'Neill have previously played in the premier league and were not good enough(sorry to Ale fans), leaving Taarabt who Harry will not play, Barton and Phillips. Simpson and Traore can possibly provide as wingbacks, leaving us requiring a minimum of a box to box midfielder and an attacking midfielder(and reasonable cover for these positions also)

 

Zamora although now a legend can't play any more than 15 minutes. Remy will be gone by the 16th in my opinion, Sigthorsson hasn't signed yet and the more protracted the transfer becomes the less likely it is going to happen,
So that just leaves Charlie, therefore the answer is no, they will not keep us up.

Have to say I would be delighted with that strike force. Mainly because it contains Remy and Austin.

We don't really need 5 strikers - often we play with just one, and a more advanced midfielder. However, Deeney would be a good option
