At least we don't need defenders for the first game.

Lees said his involvement with the team he supported as a youngster had been “an honour” and thanked Cellino and head coach David Hockaday for clearing the way for a move to Hillsborough.

However, I felt now was the right time to move on.

The 23-year-old told the YEP: “I’d just like to thank the president and the manager for the way they’ve dealt with me over the past few weeks, specifically in relation to this transfer.

Looks like you seem to know more than Lees,Billy because he said he felt it was the right time to move on and thanked the club for clearing the way for him to make the transfer. That's not forced out,in fact it sounds very close to asking for a transfer which would mean he gets nothing.I think Wednesday have offered him more money,he's spoken to Hock and said he wants to go and Leeds have helped him to do just that.
None of us know for certain but his comments lead me to believe Lees asked to leave but didn't put it in writing which means he gets 5%,after being told he wont be a team regular by Hock.

Chesh, come on, really? Lees will say positive things because he's Leeds through and through and he will want a shot at returning one day if possible ... Leeds alerted Weds to the fact Lees was available because Hock didn't want him, refused to play him ... Lees is pleased they allowed him to leave on a free because it meant he could get away from Hock ... if we had a proper manager Lees would still be at the club because he bleeds White ... now stop clutching, because Leeds DEMANDED that Weds pay the remainder of Lees' contract, because he did NOT submit a transfer request ... I can confirm Leeds received NO money on this transfer, not a penny, and that's that ... I still see nothing but trouble ahead with this clown Hockaday in charge

Doesn't make sense at all,if Wednesday paid Leeds,we pay tax on it,we then pay it to Lees who pays tax on it.When if as you say is right we would just cancel contract and Lees could receive the money as a signing on fee meaning he would pay a lot less tax and get a lot more money.

It read to me like he knew he wasn't in the plans, or at least first choice, and they sorted out a move for him that suited all parties. You obviously rate him billy and that's fair enough, each to their own, but most didnt. I bleed white too but I'm not good enough to wear the shirt.

We can blame warnock for knackering his confidence, but if he wasn't ball watching and making regular bad decisions then he wouldn't have given moanc**k reason to slate him in the first place. I wish the lad well, hope he proves me wrong and you right.

Lees probably did want to move after he was surplus to requirements, he might bleed white but he is just not good enough atm. Good luck to the lad and lets see how he does in the next couple of years.

wasnt saying he was good just saying before last season everyone else has been worse than him.

And just to put it out there, players do not get their contracts payed off when they transfer regardless of whether they put in a transfer request. That just waves the signing on fee when they hand in a transfer request which is a seperate negotiation, normally around 5-10% as I understand.

Totally agree Josh we would have to cancel his contract in effect sack him,for him to be able to claim we pay his contract up.I don't believe that has happened.

Josh, players DO get paid off if they are sold because the club doesn't want them ... the signing on fee is between the player and his NEW club, is built into the transfer fee, and very rarely does this come into the equation, except on an occasion like when Alan Smith waived his £1m signing bonus and handed it to Leeds when he left for Scum ... in the case of Lees there was no transfer fee, no signing bonus to be built in, and because Leeds were desperate to get rid they told Weds "pay up the remaining two years of his contract" ... you see, in effect Leeds were releasing Lees on a free, meaning they have to pay him off, but because there was a club ready to take him they were able to get his wages refunded ... if Leeds turned around tomorrow and decided to release Kenny, Norris, Tonge and Morison, they would have to pay up their contracts in full, which is why these players are still with us ... until someone comes along willing to maybe pay off at least fifty percent of these walking free transfers, they will remain with us at least until January ... what I don't understand is why Lees was let go without any replacement defenders signed first ... may have been better to do a deal with Weds where they took him in January while we got our transfers over the line ... I wonder what would happen if Wootton and Pearce picked up injuries before the Wall game?

Something's puzzling me. Why is the Hock getting grief over this? We all know it's Cellino that decides who comes & who goes. Criticism where it's due, please, chaps!

I don't think either is to blame, it sounds like Lee's wanted to leave after hearing we were making a bid for the Chesterfield guy and it sounds like he did not wish to fight for his first team place and he certainly doesn't seem upset about going.

I am concerned that we are seriously lacking a quality CB and striker and that we were linked with three players maybe 4 if you include the Chesterfield guy and none have made it into the club yet, on the other hand I do like how Cellino ships out the unhappy players pretty swiftly

On another note Sheff W put six past us last season, I wonder what they saw in Tom Lees

And on another another note... We have more keepers than CB's

Re Zaliukas, I read somewhere that he turned up a bit worse for wear for that game, which would go some way to explaining his performance

Was dropped for the next couple of months
