Just sounds like they are trying to complicate things to either keep him or get more money. **** them, let them keep an unhappy player

So we pay £1m just to talk to him and they then reject our offer, £1m down the ****ter?

**** Swansea, just leave it and go for someone else. If he really wants to come, maybe he can try and force the move without them taking the piss.

No it means that a team that makes a bid of at least £1m is able to start talking to the player about a move. We don't have to pay any money to do so.

Now we have to negotiate the purchase price.

I understand, but normally you have to agree a fee, not just a minimum like that

Well we obviously made an offer of at least £1m had out chat with Naylor and now the club want more. They probably didn't refuse the bid out of hand because they wanted to find out if Naylor was interested in staying or not. Now that they now he wants out they will haggle for all they can get.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if this deal went down to the wire, with Swansea accepting a bid late in August when they realise that we aren't willing to pay their stupid price but they risk being left with an unhappy player in their squad, will the all the negative baggage to morale that that brings.

    I reckon we'll get him for £2-3m.

Ridiculous clause, it makes it easy for teams to unsettle the player and make him force a move. Why dont they just say, you can talk to him and we'll sell you him for "X".

Or even more straightforward - you can't talk to our player until we accept your offer. Saves having to be pinned down to a possibly out of date valuation. There are some real numpties involved in football aren't there!?

Exactly, may as well just be a minimum fee release clause.

Nothing Welsh about it .. unless his agent is Welsh.
The silly clause was probably put in place by his agent who then, at the end of the season, let it be known to anyone who would listen that this clause was in his contract in the hope of triggering a bid and a nice fat pay check for himself.

Told you that we will refuse a pathetic bid of a million for him, offer £2m-£3m and you probably get your man, and being welsh has sod all to do with it! We basically don't need the money so why would we leave a player go for a million then have to pay £2m-£3m to replace him?
