It is telling that alot of our pre season goals have come through Isgrove. Looks like RK is going to play the lad unless we get someone better in the next fortnight, always looking to run at defenders and looking for Pelle in the box. Alot have knocked him but looks like he is taking his chance at putting his name forward
I agree with Beefy about Forster, expect he will be in goal for us v Liverpool. Also don't know if it's been said, I am happy that Clyne is back in as first choice RB, he was one of our best players in the 12-13 season IMO. Good on Chambers for getting the move but selling him was the right thing, exodus or otherwise.
Just seen goals on SKY...nice one from JWP. Kelvin error led to their goal...soft one to give away. Referred to Davis as our Captain??
Means you have to give Forster a chance...but hope the final choice will be down to ability and form. Good to have 2 great keepers...we were always one broken finger from disaster last season.
Interesting bit in JWP's interview (glad he has got his microphone seeking radar back)...said training involved shorter, sharper work, leaving the players fresher for the game.
Players aside, I think the way the team has been playing - the style and the apparent buy-in to the style of those on the pitch - has actually been pretty exciting so far. As the team sharpens up, I can see how that could be a development of what Poch started.
Although I was being slightly facetious when I posted that team, I certainly think he could do a very good job as a wide attacking mid, drifting inside the front man (similar to the one JRod & Lallana did with Lambert last season). He's obviously far more attack minded than Poch ever let him express on the field (we've also seen this when he's played for England). I was personally hoping Fonte for Captain, but Davis would also be a good choice.
Just checked...Fonte was the captain, so Sky had it wrong. I agree Davis could be the Captain, but prefer Fonte...especially as he tries to communicate with the fans...not as important as doing the job on the pitch, but v. important at the moment. The fans at the ground obviously agreed as they were chanting his name.
Sky were probably confused by Kelvin's status as club captain, thinking it meant Steve Davis was team captain.
As well as this, I always feel that keepers and defenders make the best captains, some say this is because they can see the whole pitch in front of them. I don't know if that's true now that they push up so much, but I agree with the sentiment.
It will be interesting to se how Isgrove gets on against Bayer Leverkusen. In other words, against decent opposition. Although, I suppose you have to say that Brighton is always a good test.
Doesn't matter whether there's only Isgrove. Isgrove has been given a chance, and so far has taken it.
He's very easy to listen to, as well. Met him outside the ground before the game - very approachable and had lots of time for the fans.
