I'm in the pro Adel camp, thought I'd just get that out of the way first. What I'm now going to write will probably sound bias towards him, but it is in no way an attempt at making excuses for him. I have no problem believing that there is something in the news story. For me it is more likely AC Milan trying to get him for what they are willing to pay rather than pay the asking price set by QPR. They have tried before and it looks like QPR stand firm and won't let him leave for less than our valuation of him. This might be what AC Milan has told Adel and his agent(s) to do if he wants the move badly enough, put pressure on QPR and make his precence untenable. Whether Adel and his crew has acted upon it yet, one way or another, is still guesswork.
Pay me £3 million a year to work it out and I'll put some thought into it Ubes. Seriously, he is dim, lazy, vain and arrogant and I think these characteristics are the ones you have to understand to get the best out of him. And you'll only do that if you think the return is worth the effort, which I am 100% convinced Redknapp does not believe. That's his prerogative, and he is on record as saying he can't be bothered anymore with 'difficult' players. Why the **** we continue with this farce is beyond me. I would still pick him every game, purely because its more fun when he's on the pitch, and fun is what I want, which was completely reinforced by what I witnessed on the pitch last year. If we don't have him please can we have someone else like him? Did you watch that clip I posted of Ronaldhino from last season - in seven minutes of highlights, this aged and (allegedly) fat, unfit, disinterested and past it genius provided more entertainment than the 42 (yes that's right I've looked it up) players we used last year put together.
I may be one of the last remaining amateurs, but football, to me, is an entertainment. In recent seasons no one at Loftus Road has come close to offering the level of entertainment that Taarabt has. I honestly do understand the arguments against Taarabt, I can’t find fault in many of them, but they are not my opinion and they are not looking from my viewpoint. If football is purely about winning trophies we are all wasting our time supporting little ol’ QPR. We’ve had our day at Wembley, this season is going to be a long, hard slog. I’ve paid a small fortune to go and suffer with the misfortunates week after week, but the thought that we may get a few flashes of Taarabt’s magic gives some hope that I may not be completely wasting my time. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy winning matches, but not at all costs. I enjoy an excellent defensive performance, but it is genius at the other end of the pitch that starts the blood pumping a little faster. We rarely look capable of putting together a swift, sweeping moving of neat, one touch passing carving our opponents open, so we are reliant on individual brilliance to keep me entertained. I have some hopes for Phillips, fewer for Hoilett, but the prospect of Taarabt, oh yeah, that will keep me coming back. And as I have said before, the day that I accept football is purely about the result is the day I stop going.
There you go, a philosophy which I am more that happy to nail my colours to. Stadler and Waldorf are in place for next season. I hope Beth has endless patience.
I largely agree with the sentiment but if he isn't fit enough he will not manage much against top players. Also, if he brings negativity to the dressing room won't he partly be bringing back what we suffered from last time in the EPL? I agree that QPR should be learning to play football well rather than cancel out other teams' good football. I'd like to see the whole team playing well under good direction from the coaching and management staff. That's what would entertain me. I don't want to see one unfit kid on the playground trying to twist everyone up at the expense of the rest of the team. I value our club and want them to stay firm over having the 'right sort' of players. I don't want them gambling and hoping on one, petulant player, hoping that he'll turn up and entertain us a bit. So, although I largely agree with your sentiment about football, I don't think Adel is the way... unless he seriously changes.
Great post, Roller. You've articulated what most of us feel about the entertaining romanticism of QPR. But the fact remains, how do you get that particular Adel Taarabt back on the pitch in the Hoops in the Prem when it seems he doesn't want to be there? If I'm wrong and he does want to be there, and he does get himself into shape, and he does put in a shift on the pitch I'd be flippin' delighted. If not, then I might take another look at Stan's Ronaldinho home movies.
Notice to our mods Roller and Mr 9's. Instead of having all these new Adel threads why don't we just have a sticky thread with the title "What Adel did next". All the latest Adel news and poster opinions can be slogged out in this new sticky until he retires or passes away! Just saying.
Judging by the look on adel's face on arrival in Dublin, he looks delighted to be there, a bit like the face of a man walking into the gas chamber.
If I actually knew the answer to that I could be earning 3 million a year and would have justifiably earned the reputation as a great man-manager. The fella knows that he is not wanted and knows that he is not going to play and so someone with his temperament will stop trying. Someone has to change those conditions. Personally I start by putting him on the pitch, and not just for a game here or there, give him a run in the team and tell him that he is going to play every week. Hughes gave him a run towards the back end of the season we survived and, if my rose-tinted memory doesn't deceive me, he did better than most, he also did well in Milan with a run in their side. We pretty much carried Morrison last season waiting for his moments of undeniable skill and yet we are not prepared to offer the same to Taarabt. If Redknapp is not prepared to do that he may as well give Taarabt to Milan and stop pissing around over a couple of million quid.
Redknapp did play Taarabt when we were relegated. He was along with Remy our best attacking player. His wonder goal against Fulham and assist for Remy at Upton Park comes to mind.
...and the one for SWP against Chelsea, where he played number 9 all by himself. So that's 2 of our 4 wins he played a crucial role in.
Had all but forgotten that one. That was a very good match in difficult circumstances from Tarbs. Shows the intelligence and understanding for the game he's got.
Like most, I admire the talent but abhor the application. I doubt Taarabt will go anywhere as he will fail any medical on the grounds that he is "a pain in the arse"
Perhaps Morrison is experiencing a sharp pain in the arse this morning when he takes a shower with Bubba and Large Keith.
