Chelsea offered Galatasaray's Arda Turan in exchange for Drogba plus £7m in cashBy Simon Jones Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ange-Didier-Drogba-plus-7m.html#ixzz1QSUuJ1Fs New Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas could be persuaded to let Drogba, 33, leave for the right price, and the Ivory Coast international will wait to see if Chelsea splash out on another forward before making a decision on his future. With Villas-Boas intent on bringing Colombia striker Falcao with him from Porto and Chelsea also showing interest in Udineseâs Alexis Sanchez, Drogbaâs competition will not just be limited to £50m striker Fernando Torres and Nicolas Anelka. It had been widely assumed Drogba would leave Stamford Bridge this summer with Real Madrid initially very keen, but Villas-Boas will not make any hasty decisions on the playing squad he has inherited. However, assistant first-team coach Paul Clement, club doctor Bryan English and fitness coach Glen Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...lus-7m.html#ixzz1QSWDidkI:emoticon-0150-hands
Really hated Drogba when he used to dive around the place but in the last 2 years he seems to have stopped doing it. I think he will probably move on.
AVB's first mistake. Drogba is a proven source for 20+ Goals a season... this will only work if they build their attacks around Torres (who has no excuse this season)
Well at least this may finally answer the old 606 mystery of Arda Turan actually existing. Though he is quoted as saying if he left Galatasaray, he would only play for Liverpool.
I hope so. Right now he is still the most dangerous striker in the world even at 33. But perhaps him leaving could free up Torres and turn him into the main man.
Unfortunately Torres only seems to perform well in the lone striker role proven by his poor showing at the world cup(admittedly was also coming back from injury). However if Chelsea set up the team this way then Torres has to score the majority of the goals, this could be a big gamble as i believe he's not quite the same player he was a few seasons ago. If Torres cant score enough goals then letting Drogba go will cost them but as hes 33 now, they need to replace him sooner or later anyway.
Only one of them can play regularly because they both are in the same role and seeing as Torres cost £50 million its unlikely that Drogba will be the main choice. I wouldn't be surprised to see Drogba go back to Marseille.
Drogba is a massive threat on his day but he is getting on a bit and with Torres costing £50M, I can see him being moved on and Villas-Boas trying to shape the attack around Torres.
I think a big Gamble is buying falcao for 30 mil more than likely when it is widely known Torres is best as a lone striker. I really rate falcao from his time at River ( who got relegated yesterday btw!!!!!!!!!!) and would hate to see him sit the bench or deal with that sort of turmoil.
He ws their best forward at the end of this season and the only one that looked up for it against United in the CL. He rollled off the pitch when we were attacking and then rolled back on and the ref stopped the game, a joke of a human being but a good footballer, if he wasn't playing football he'd ave been sellng crack. A truely dishonest lying diving cheating scumbag, reminds me of another up north
I agree on getting a return for Drogba, but if you are going to spend that much on Falcao then he surely won't want to sit the bench behind Torres or the other way around and we know playing the two up top doesn't really work. Unless Falcao can fill in out wide like Hulk or Varela did for VB at Porto. Vasco? Don't really follow them, I follow Santos who just won the Libertadores but unfortunatly when they play in the club world cup Neymar will be gone and so will Ganso =(. I think Vasco recently won either the Brazilian cup, or I think it was the regional(state) cup.
The problem with Drogba is that he demands to be the centre of all their attacks, and makes himself the centre any time he is on the pitch. If Drogba and Lampard are playing regularly then AVB will have to play to their strengths, or they'll either sulk or go missing each game. That will prevent him rebuilding the team in his own image and playing the attacking football he has promised to bring to the Chavs. I dunno, Torres also works well with a striker like Villa who likes to pull out wide and drag the defenders around to create space. Admittedly that was back in 2008 and 2009 before Torres went off the cliff, but if he gets a partner who works for him then he could get his form back. Not sure Falcao is that partner tho - although Hulk is an inferior striker he may be a better foil for Torres if AVB is determined to raid Porto.
ya I like Falcao better than Hulk but both are good. Porto will be making a killing this summer it seems, from the selling of Miereles and Bruno Alves last year to now AVB , probably Falcao and Hulk each at least 30 mil in this market. Note: not that they wanted to lose these players and manager but will make the most of the losing them by getting paid a pretty penny.
Didier Donkey, can be almost unplayed on his day..shame that was 2 years ago..Age and time wait for no man..He's done, time to get rid of a milestone on the wage bill.
Villa Boas is going to have to do more than reinvent their attack. He'll also have to do something with their midfield too,as its too static to accomodate Torres.Even one of the Chelsea coaches admitted that Torres needs a ''Gerrard type'' playing behind him to get the best out of him.Chelsea don't have such a player.I reckon they will have to off-load Lampard to get a player in to do that job.
Benayoun was good at feeding Torres and they bought that Brazilian teenager Piazon too. However your right that neither are comparable to Gerrard.
I reckon they need to sign Modric to get the best out of Torres, and go with a solid midfield three with Essien,Modric and possibly Mikel with Malouda and Kalou flanking,Falcao is also a flanker,he can play through the centre too.
