According to The News of The World:- "Tottenham have still not given up hope of signing David Beckham when his Los Angeles Galaxy contract expires in November." If we end up with no new strikers, and having signed only Friedal and Beckham, I will be more than a little bit angry.
We were linked with Figo every transfer window for 3 seasons and nothing ever came from it. I don't think even 'Arry would seriously consider Beckham as a player anymore.
When we was linked to the loan move last season i had a funny feeling he would sign for us in November once his contract is over. I know its only the News of the World but i still reckon between Levy and Harry we will sign him just for the shirt sales!
I wouldn't be at all surprised. From Beckham's point of view, if he believes that there's any chance at all of another England cap, he'll probably go for it.
Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me, either. We've got no back-up for Lennon, really and it might be seen as a worthwhile promotion tool. Redknapp would probably fancy having another high-profile voice to push for his selection as England manager, once Capello steps down and it'd be a handy way for Beckham to play his way into the British Olympic Team, too. I'm sure that we'd all rather avoid this circus, but it seems pretty predictable, doesn't it?
I'm sure that we'd sell it as some sort of rotation policy Colonel, valuing his experience in Europe and history of winning trophies, ie. playing him in the Europa and the cups!
As his contract runs out in November, what if he joins us - then we sell him for a hugely inflated price to a club with more money than sense (i.e. Chelsea or Man City) to make a huge profit without even trying?
I'm not suggesting that TNOTW actually has any insight Spurf, but it's looked pretty likely since he came over here to train and his contract situation became apparent.
That's the thing about having more money than sense - for example, Man City paid £18m for Nigel De Jong, when they could've signed him for £3.8m three months later.
True, but if they want Beckham this season, then they'll get him when he's out of contract. I can't see it, though. Maybe he'll go to West Ham?
I have never been able to get my head around the adoration of Beckham. He's a good player but hardly a great one (unless I've missed somthing) Yet he is fated where ever he goes as an all time great. For me it cheapens the achievments of the the truly great players that have played for England, like Greaves, Charlton, Moore, Mathews, Finney, Hoddle,Gazza, I wouldn't even put him on a par with Linekar, Keegan, Shearer, Robson Bobby & Bryan. I'm sure I've left some out but you get the idea.
I can think of two reasons: i.) He's English, so therefore the term "world class" gets bastardised when used in conjunction with his name. ii.) His PR agency get more of his money per week than his failed popstar wife does.
I'd suggest it's because there were a number of games where Beckham basically played on his own for England, v Greece for example and the rest is good branding. His missus may seem like a dippy tart, but I get the feeling that she's got a great head for marketing.
