Thanks Stroller!! That helps me feel a bit more positive (and warm) about the place I still spend more than half my time in. I'm generally fed up with the normally cold climate here (not right now!), and strangers, who often seem cold on the surface, but are probably mostly more reserved and shy, than cold, as this clip suggests.

I met quite a few Norwegians when I was at Uni in Edinburgh. I have to say that once I was on the inside of their tent and spitting out with them, I found them to be a top bunch. Nothing but great respect from my own experiences.

    You're welcome Oslo.

Norwegians, and Scandinavians in general, consistently appear towards the top of lists for 'happiest' or 'most contented' populations. So perhaps, whilst they may appear outwardly cold, they are all warm and fuzzy inside.

The compassion shown in the video is not exclusive to Norwegians of course. Small acts of kindness such as these are going on every day all over the world, but they are not newsworthy.

A small child is always going to elicit sympathy from strangers I would say; a more telling barometer of compassion might have been to have used an adult male; how many would have spoken to him or offered coats gloves and scarves then?
Maybe it's just the cynic in me but I actually thought it was a cheap attempt to soften up viewers for the donation at the end.

You may well be right GC, but I was just trying to find something heart-warming.

The thing is, people assume an adult make can look after himself and he usually can. If people knew an adult male was in trouble I'm sure plenty of people would step in.

What adult males don't tend to get help for is mental health problems.

But anyway, this thread is meant to be positive. Here's something positive involving our club:

The good news on this side of the Irish sea is, today is like Christmas Eve for us Irish R's.

QPR touch down here this afternoon for a 6 day tour. We have two games on Saturday and Tuesday against Shamrock Rovers and Athlone Town respectively. We also have a two hour open training day at Carton House on Monday.

    Life is good.

Your glass is nearly empty, but mine is quite full. Between us we have a foaming pint.

Yeah, I have a pretty jaundiced view of the world basically. Much of it is ****.

I'm amazed it wasn't reported as a new species in Gloucestershire...at the moment there's a big cat roaming the hills (though there is no actual proof) and reports of giant foxes attacking cats in the middle of housing estates.

I'll see if I can find some good news of substance rather than local news about animals next time!

    Good news everyone!

The pain I feel in both Achilles tendons every morning, which makes me walk downstairs like a fragile 95 year old, has a name!

It's tendinopathy, and even better, there's no cure or even alignment on treatment beyond painkillers (which will eventually **** my liver up!)! And its brought on by.......a lifetime of low standard (ok pathetic) sporting activity that I can't retract! And it only feels better after I've moved around a bit and done a bit of walking.......which of course makes it worse in the long run!

Why is this good news I hear you ask........because if this isn't incontrovertible evidence that there is no God, or at the very least that if there is a God it is a sick, twisted, spiteful toad like thing, I don't know what is. So we can all save time by stopping praying and expecting nice things to happen as a result.

No, don't thank me. My pleasure.

Or evidence that god is aware of your opinion of him?

He also created SWP, further evidence of a sense of humour.
