I assume that warning was BEFORE Cortese tried to sack him ?

Yes, that was sneaky. His eyes were quite close together.

Joe! :-''People hate Pochettino right now but there's no denying his pressing style improved us, and that is the way football is heading''

I liked watching us under MP and I might have hoped his training would have improved us even when he left if the players had stayed. Hard to be grateful for him when those players will now ply their trade elsewhere. Adkins may well have been replaced anyway by now...perhaps by Koeman. Unless the players left have been improved by MP's training, his tenure here was not only a complete waste of time, but, as it turned out, a disaster.

    Completely unsubstantiated rumour.

I believe the board said they were trying to convince him to stay on and that they were confident they could. I think you can put that down to being another stupid statement from them. Pochettino never gave us any hints that he intended to stay on for another season.

It could be argued that Pochettino has done us more harm than any manager since Branfoot, albeit for completely different reasons.

Only if you consider his departure the sole reason for all the players leaving, which in my opinion is doubtful.

Also rather weird...even for Nicola that was a bit left field (aka completely barking mad or doing a Boruc). Still fun rumours actually need less evidence to be true than really boring ones. FACT!

Oh come on Fran, there's a BIG difference to what someone wheels out ad nauseum to the press/fans, and what is said or hinted at internally. I never believed a word of that, and if the board did then they must be staggeringly naive.

The "I still have a contract here" line can very reliably be translated to "Stop ****ing asking me about my future, I'm telling you nothing."

I don't consider it the sole reason. But I doubt the implosion would have been quite so catastrophic had he stayed on. I also believe that because they respected him many of the players couldn't wait to follow his, to my mind rather duplicitous, example.

Naïve is a term rolled out when honest people trust other people. If you are not devious and two faced yourself, you can get caught out by dishonest people. Been through that myself, but would still rather be me than someone cynical and untrusting. A person being 'naive' doesn't excuse the liar...that's like saying a burglar isn't a criminal because people should double lock their doors. MP misled them...as simple as that. Now time to move on and do well.

Sure, but it depends how far back you want to look on the chain of causation.

Poch left > because Cortese did > because Kat ousted him > because Markus died

True enough, perhaps 'naive' is the wrong word. I would have been surprised if they'd taken what was said to the press etc at face value though.

This is probably the most simplistic and crass chain of causation I have ever seen.

Not even certain that MP would have stayed if Nicola was still here. We were a stepping stone to him...reckon Nicola would have met his match with the two-faced one. Mind you, we should be grateful for Nicola's special little clause in the contract. Nice one, Don.
