Agree with stick on #threadgate! Attivo is putting a lot of effort into the daily thread, its being put up consistently and I think he should be commended for his efforts rather than criticised. Can't help thinking the Gold Cup 2nd and 3rd should both win well today but their both priced accordingly. Mind u if Estimate gets any better than the 2/1 across the board she currently is she's surely worth a bet. As stated yesterday, laying my selections would prove very successful at the minute!
Just to clarify - attivo volunteered to do the daily thread, he wasn't asked by the mods. For the record though attivo mate, I find your threads tremendous and really appreciate the effort you put into it - a tremendous service for the forum For those who don't like it - as stated above, no one is making you read it.
My position hasn't changed at all. I was the first person to respond to Oddy's post saying I wouldn't be adding all the extra details when I started the thread. There's way too much in that first post. I expect no one ever reads it. I'm not bothered about the Stick's selections bit. Makes no difference to me. Don't really understand I can be classed a fickle when it's obviously not the case. Oddy was the one who suggested the DT changed and to be fair, he doesn't seem to bother with this place any more.
Thought about this carefully, and I do think fusion has a point. I did prefer it the way attivo started out, which was a near-perfect start to the Daily Thread. I honestly think we are on information overload, and emoticon overload too! Quite right though. no one is making us read it! And Stick, we're not all a fickle bunch of t**ts, just me sometimes.
And another point about the DT. This is a forum that some of us put a lot of effort into. I don't come on to take other people's tips because I don't need to. It's very rare I back something other people put up. The last 2 occasions were Athenian from Barney on that first run and Gran Maestro from Stick and that was because of PM's, not posts on the DT. I used to enjoy starting the DT because I usually did it because I was very keen on a particular horse and I wanted to give people who back my horses the early heads up. I'm not being overly critical of Attivo. I just think there are tweaks that should be made to the thread and I certainly think i've earned the right to have my opinion considered.
Hello, all. Cor blimey those bookie chappies are giving absolutely nothing away today. Picked out 4 potential winners, last evening, but won’t be backing any of them as quite frankly the odds on offer are Shocking with a capital ‘S’! I’m off to God’s own county, Devon, for two and a bit weeks from tomorrow morn but in my absence will advise: (i) a colt called SLEEPING ROUGH, what a terrible name for a horse by the way, makes his racecourse bow at Bath tomorrow eve (7.40). Is seen as a very good prospect and long term could possibly be quite decent. Will not be fully 100% tomorrow but you can guarantee whatever he achieves at Bath he will come on for the outing enormously. One to watch closely, methinks. (ii) a colt who will be forward enough on Sunday at Newbury is the one that I hinted about at the beginning of the week. ACCRA BEACH (2.40) was a massive eyecatcher on his debut at Royal Windsor staying on, into second place, once the penny dropped about what racing was all about. A potential topnotcher for old boy Charlton and I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that after this race people may be saying the words ‘Accra Beach’ and ‘2015 2,000 Guineas’ in the same breath. Take care and good luck!
2.05 Goodwood Madeed 8/1 Course winner Madeed finished 2nd behind American Hope on the wrong side at Royal Ascot in the Britannia on his latest start and off the same mark of 89 and the step up to 10f sure to suit I think Brian Meehan's charge looks to have a belting chance today. Having ran a very promising race when runner up to the then twice raced and talented Richard Hannon inmate Expert in a 7f Newmarket Maiden last July, Madeed shed his Maiden tag at the second time of asking with a comfortable neck victory over 1m here at Goodwood a month later when beating the talented pair Pack Leader (rated 90) and Hymenaios (rated 87) on what was his final start of his juvenile campaign. On the back of an 8 month absence, Madeed made his seasonal reappearance in a strong Listed race over 9f at Newmarket where he shaped a lot better than his finishing position suggested. A bit keen in the early stages, Madeed hit the front about 3f out before steadily fading late on and it certainly was a nice enough reintroduction to racing. Given a further two months off the track and with a tongue tie applied for the first time, Madeed made his handicap debut in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot where he ran an absolute blinder to finish 7th overall and 2nd in the unfavoured far side group here he shaped as if a step up in trip would suit. Looking at exclusively the far side group, the first home American Hope is a horse that I like a lot and who was very unlucky not to win last weekend at Ascot when agonisingly reeled in late on having been forced to hit the front too soon. Additionally, the 4th home that side Table Rock went on to win a handicap off the same mark and a Listed contest subsequently and I've no doubt the form of his blinding run on just his 4th career start is excellent form. Racing off an unchanged mark of 89, I think the step up to 10f will suit today and I'm happy to see Kieren Fallon booked as he seemed to get on very well with him on his two juvenile starts. Proven at the course, off a mark of 89 which I definitely think he's handicapped to win off and with Brian Meehan in decent form, I'm confident of a big showing from this unexposed 3 year old and Paddy Power's special of money back if 2nd or 3rd is a particularly appetising offer. Of the others, I think Amanda Perrett's well bred Astronereus is on a good mark judged on what he has achieved on course and I've backed him with Madeed in forecasts.
Hear hear. And it wouldnlt be the same without the odd out break of bickering over something that people probably don't actually care about! Have perused the Galway hurdle card long and hard and keep coming back to the idea that Aidan O Brien might be onto something with Plinth. Took 10s so we'll see how we go. It's amazing to think that last years winner is favourite for todays Lilly Langtry at Goodwood. A lot of owners talk about wanting to have some fun with their horses but this is soemthing else!
I had only backed Astronereus ROTO, but you make a compelling case for Madeed so I'll copy you and stick him in the fc In the Cup, it's impossible to deny Estimate's outstanding credentials, and for all Brown Panther's undoubted ability, I feel he is at his best on an easy surface. Ivawood is rightly an odds on shot in the Richmond, but I'm going each way on Fox Trotter, and agree with Toppy that 14-1 looks too big Come on the Trotter Good luck all
Hmmmm that's a tempter ........... I haven't seen a Watford/Bolton match since that fiasco at Wembley a few years back, where, if I'd had a sniper rifle I would gladly have shot Dean Holdsworth for that incredible miss in the last 5 minutes Have you got a decent team these days? Not that you'll need one ....... EDIT: I'll be in Gloucester that weekend so you will have to do the piss taking on here!
so who was better Arkle or Kauto Star? Just thought I would throw that in, whilst you are all having handbags time!
In the 3.10 at Goodwood, Brown Panther represents better value than Estimate. As he's a course and distance winner, I'll place him in a double with Missunited in the 3.45 at Goodwood.
Galway hurdle tough as always but I'm going to side with the elliot horse bayan who should be there abouts at the end
I'm with Pearl Castle in the Galway Hurdle. He should have won at Cheltenham in March - but wasn't good enough! I don't let facts influence my betting
