Is there any certainty that we will actually sign Rojo, or VvD? I know both have been linked but it seems that if Rojo is actually that good, he will be snapped up by someone else before us as our supposed interest has alerted other clubs (probably Liverpool, Spurs or QPR knowing our luck) If we just bought Rojo and had Targett as backup on the left, most would understand that! but not with Bertrand in the mix too. Regardless of ability, I think it would be insanity to ditch Fonte. That's not being sentimental, but losing the 6/7 we have done is difficult to cope with, but losing the stability and influence of Fonte would upset the system a lot. Although I havent seen a lot of Bertrand, I'd like to think that he fits into the bracket of a group of young(ish) English players that have a point to prove. Throw in players like Redmond, Bamford and Wickham into the mix and it could get interesting.
Isn't Rojo being quoted as costing £16m? Might sound like we should go "oh just f**k it, pay them that", but he's represented by Doyen Sports, who do financing transfers and I think (might not be right) they have a stake in Rojo. That £16m might just be what we pay Sporting, not the whole package.
Bamford and Wickham are quite good (not good enough for our first team now, but I'd like them in the squad), but I don't think Bertrand or Redmond will ever quite cut it, personally.
I personally dont think Rojo will join us, i can see us upping our bid for him and agreeing a fee with his club only for someone else to come in and match our offer and be able to give him European football. I am pretty sure Targett will get plenty of game time this season, and may end up being our top left back by the end of the season, but we dont want to burn him out, and need a decent back up in case of injuries, loss of form etc, so expecting him and Bertrand to both get their chance to impress. If we sign one or two centre halves, Fonte will start the season, then it will be up to the others to force their way into the team, if they can. The Forster signing is a nice to have rather than vital in my opinion, i havent seen a lot of him, but what i have seen makes me think i would rather have Marshall to be honest. It is up front we need other options, Pelle and Tadic may or may not work, Gaston is still with us so he has a big chance to finally show us what he can do consistantly, but the rest of the attacking options are a bit limited, so one or two signings here, are where we desperately need to spend some decent cash.
I'm pretty sure we're a stepping stone for Vic, but I don't care any more. That's the way the game is.
Yep, although the little optimist in me hopes that some players will realise how brilliant we are and will stay forever and ever.........
If we become a Europa League team, you'll notice players giving us more of a chance, a la Everton and Spurs.
Seems like a good signing to me. I'm not ****ing though - merely semi hard for this. http://www1.skysports.com/transfer/...n-sign-chelsea-defender-ryan-bertrand-on-loan
Possibly. Spurs still couldn't hang on to Modric or Bale, and have (so far) been unable to plunder us for Schneiderlin and J-Rod, so I'm not sure how strong their position is. Everton seem to be doing okay. Couldn't stop Fellaini leaving, but I'm interested to know how they've persuaded Baines and Barkley to stay on. Maybe no-one else came in for them.
Sure, but if they weren't in Europe I think a lot more would be tempted away. In our position I don't think they'd stand a chance of hanging on to someone like Lloris, Eriksen or Vertonghen. If someone good enough for Real Madrid came through we'd still lose them, but the likes of Lallana, Chambers and Lovren aren't in that category.
Oh for crying out loud Jonny, I've already merged one Welcome thread. This one's going the same way. Just have a glance at the board before you post new threads next time.
I don't think anyone here has said ditch Fonte, just don't turn away a good CB if they come available.
