We weren't planning a holiday abroad this year as instead the present Mrs Uber wanted the bathroom and en suite upgraded, plus we got ourselves a dog. But things have been quite difficult for us in other areas this year, not least the aforementioned Mrs U. sadly losing her father. There has been a lot of unnecessary 'family stuff' to contend with too, so I managed to scrape a few pennies together, rented myself out in the public lavs and mugged a few grannies such that we've booked a late deal for a week in Rhodes soon. We really need the break. What are your holiday plans if any?
Mine deferred til Oct half term as depart tomorrow to work in Qatar. The wife is taking the kids to Cromer late August. I went to Rhodes in '86 I think. Had a great time
Thanks Wubba. I've not done a Greek Island since the mid-90s, unless you sort of count Cyprus, so looking forward to it.

I went to Rhodes during the World Cup in '94. Man it was hot. Recommend a ferry to an island called Symi if you get time, very pretty and great seafood restaurants. Done a totally idle week in a villa in Majorca already, off to the US for work on Sunday, Chicago with the wife in October.
Not till October going to Tenerife, 3 weddings this year daughter in May, nephew & son both in August expensive year so far.
Off in the morning to a campsite near Sarlat France for 8 days. Driving down there with my wife, 5 year old boy, 3 year old and 2 year old daughters. Wish me luck!
I feel your pain bruv.....spending the day at 'Kids Playworld' yesterday with my 3 youngest was truly my worst day ever on this earth of hours Good luck !!
Going nowhere as have an exam the first week of September, so I am studying hard..... my girls get to go away with their mum this summer and I get to take them away in October.
I shall be heading for Devon in the bank holiday week. Staying at a lovely B&B on the edge of Dartmoor and each day head out to a different area of either Devon or Cornwall, such a lovely, lazy, easy-paced week. Looking forward to seeing the Red Arrows at Dartmouth Regatta during that week...
Cheers Stan. We're staying in Kalithea which I believe is on the north-east of the island. I couldn't find Symi on the map but we'll look out for it. I would've preferred a fortnight, but I guess on the basis that we thought we couldn't afford anything this year I should be grateful.
Its about 40 minutes on the fast boat north west ish from Rhodes, right next to the Turkish coast. You can get one at about 9 in the morning and return 4 in the afternoon. It's coming back to me now - we stayed overnight, on a holiday within a holiday. It was pre kids and we ended up with 2 weeks on Rhodes at the last minute, had been going to Santorini but the travel company went bust. The whole thing was so amazingly cheap it didn't feel extravagant at all. Symi was great in the evening, as all the day trippers from Rhodes had gone and the restaurants halved their prices as they tried to shift that day's catch. Overnight would be trickier for you though if you are only there for a week and with kids.
Just got back from 5 nights camping in a village called Barton (!) just outside Wrexham. An hour's drive from home and with the weather we've had we could just as well of been in Spain! Kids loved there first experience under canvas and we're already planning our next trip
If my memory serves me well we both did Menorca last year, Congles. I really enjoyed the island, hired a car and travelled around a bit, had lovely walks and runs, plus the resort itself was great. How was yours? (Of course, if it wasn't you going to Menorca last year, please ignore me a fetch me a medic)
No plans this year due to cash and work. Had a week at Easter in a lovely cottage on a farm near Sherborne, weather was excellent and no mobile signal/wifi so really chilled out. as for the summer, we'll do days out or if we can grab a few days, maybe go camping somewhere - there's a lovely site just above Henley which is no more than 25 minutes drive from home but feels like a country away.... Plans for next year is a trip to see family down in the South of France over Easter time, so I'm just waiting until Ryanair's calendar of flights to Carcassonne reach that far...
Haven't got the exeact dates fixed yet, but expect to be taking a six to nine month break this year. Probably Brixton.
Co-incidentally given your other post Uber I'm off for a long weekend in Sandown - it still has its pier too. Had my fortnight in the sun already - also going to West Cork, where I'm expecting no sun
Uber, loved Rhodes last year or two back. Very hot but great sea and beaches. Had a week in the surrounds of Buttermere back in June. Fantastic cottage in splendid isolation called Bowderbeck. It had no TV so we took one to watch the England games - those were the only low points of the holiday!!
