Think he'll be fine with regular game time, and he's free (for now) and will be cheap next Summer (if he does well and we want to buy him). I know he's not brilliant, but I'm far from disappointed.
So now we know what Morgan Schneiderlin meant when he tweeted: "6 years of an amazing journey #saintsfc DESTROYED in 1 hour !!!"
Didn't read that, assumed he'd be cheap as he's not in Chelsea's plans and that he's not got long left on his contract.
Really hate the attitude of Liverpool fans regarding the tweet sky sports news made about us signing Bertrand - its full of them moaning about how bad of a player he is. Its so typicalof football fans in some respects, obviously they were linked with him and fans decided he was not good enough for them (rightfully so) but this has evidently sparked a bandwagon of hate towards him- which is far worse than he deserves. Fustrates me when twitter seems to snowball opinions into much larger exaggerated views (guly esc)
Cant remember seeing a lot of him last season, but i was pretty impressed with him when he played for Chelsea. Unbelievable that he is getting slagged off, at least he has joined us and seems pleased to be here. Hopefully the money we have saved on signing him we can now pay up the extra to get Rojo in as a centre half, and make Burnley an offer they cant refuse for Ings.
Exxxxxxxxxactly. And Rojo can play LB too. Which looks like, guess what, a sensible purchasing strategy to me...
How I feel about this really depends on where we DO spend the money. I'm happy enough with Bertrand as an option to Targett, he probably feels in the wilderness a bit and has a chance to impress a new manager at a new club for a permanent deal. Like somebody said above, he will be more suited to our style of play and with him comes valuable experience (a Champion's League final). If it doesn't work out, well we didn't spend anything bar wages in the process. If his signing was announced after a couple of bigger, more exciting names then I don't think people would mind as much. Compared to the names being bandied about it is rather underwhelming because we've been waiting on tenterhooks for Dutch World Cup stars etc. I'm happy enough with this transfer, as long as the money we haven't spent on a new LB is used on another position.
Isn't this exactly what fans here are doing...not the greatest player in the known universe costing 25m from Barcelona so must be rubbish. I see a young player with decent provenance who wants to be here and has something that appeals to Saints...deserves a friendly hello and a chance.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...io-pochettino-haunt-southampton-again-3633022 Old piece about our earlier (supposed) interest in Bertrand. If we did want him on a permanent deal previously, I wonder what changed. Price too high to take the risk, Koeman unsure, or perhaps Ryan wanting to see how it goes before signing a full contract (especially as the new Tasmanian Devil persona of Kreuger has appeared ).
Yep, let's show the guy a little love, if only because he wants to be here. He's not related to Belgian punk legend Plastic Bertrand is he?
I'm happy with this, it's risk free for a season and allows us to sign Rojo as well. If he has a good season, then £10million is still small change from the Shaw deal. He's played for England and in a Champions League final so has experience. If he does sign permanently, he won't need to leave to chase Champ league football as he's been there, done that and won the blooming thing! Give the guy a chance, he's a Saint for now and at the moment that's saying something.
