Glentoran have had a good spell playing European football since the 1960's reaching the quarter finals of the ECWC, unlike the Wallies 180minutes playing Ferencvaros who we beat in a European final if I'm not mistaken Evening Shako lads
Glenavon have improved over the last couple of years but have so far only made it to the top of what is something of a mid table mini-league to finish in the top half of the table after the split. In recent years the top teams over here in N.I are Cliftonville, Linfield and Crusaders and in my view these top squads are around league 2 standard generally with a scattering of league 1 standard players which is decent given clubs here are semi-pro. At the moment I'd probably say Glenavon were about the standard of a conference side. Quite a few inexperienced but decent young prospects mixed in with some experienced individuals at this level but only a couple of players who'd make it into the starting 11 at the top clubs in the NIFL Premiership.
Just thinking, next up Dundee United - they had a great Europran pedigree too, remember being at Tannadice early 80s for a CWC quarter-final against Rapid Vienna I think. If memory serves they won it that year or the following, WJ would know.
See another one of your top players has jumped ship after 15 years lept at the chance of joining a big club with ambition
Oh yeah, for sure. Millwall would struggle in NIFL Championship 2. Queen's University would teach them a lesson in football.
22 man brawl between NI/Mexico in Milk Cup tonight, not handbags either, some vicious booting of heads going on. Hope young McDaid is ok - 4 sent off. On local tv news.
