Excellent ride by the boy Shartall (-7lbs) to Swoooooooooop close home @ S.P. 4/1 Interviewed on RTE TV he said of his Plate ride "The ground has come right for him with a bit of ease, we will go from near the front, he has as good a chance as any". Got to have a few YoYos E/W on Road to Riches @ 16/1 for the Plate after that Rags to Riches ride! Tony Martin Said Greatness is entered up on Sat, Jack wont run on Friday as he doesn't want to risk such a talented horse with 2 quick runs, he will be aimed at the Ebor & Cesarewitch. Good Luck
Rare poor ride from Ryan Moore in my opinion on George Rook. He gave up a lot of ground needlessly at the start and ended up closing third never nearer with his best work being done once the race was over. Made more use of could have had a greater impact.
Just watched the Sussex Stakes and I must say I'm unsure where all this awe of Kingman is coming from? Getting 8lbs from the 2 older horses and the proximity of the 112 rated Darwin in 3rd gives the form a very dodgy look. Yes it was a tactical race but if Kingman is that good he ought to have been putting more than a length and a head between himself and Darwin. Not convinced at all.
I think Oddy it's that he look so visually impressive as he travels and quickens. Although it was a strange tactical race we can not pretend that Toranado was not a very notable scalp to take, although not great he is a very good miler for Richard Hannon, and kingman beat him hands and heels (albeit in a sprint). I think I would like to see him tested to stay as Gosdens coments about him winning the July Cup were telling. The best chance of beating him may come if Australia were to tackle a mile again with a fierce pacemaker. This is unlikely however. My verdict at present is that Kingman is a very good miler indeed who could prove great if kept in training.
7.40 Leicester Rio Ronaldo 9/2 Trainer Mike Murphy has only had the 2 winning juvenile in his training career but I think he's now developed a far superior standard of horses in his stable and I think this well bred gelded son of Footstepsinthesand can go very close here tonight on the back of a very encouraging debut. A half brother to Grade 3 winning Louvain, Listed winner Laajooj, Group 3 placed Desert Poppy and David O'Meara's G Force who is an exciting 3 year old, Rio Ronaldo made his debut at Windsor earlier this month where I thought he shaped extremely promising in 5th in a Maiden that I think will turn out to be very strong. Having been keen initially, Rio Ronaldo was one of the last off the bridle under a very educational ride from Pat Dobbs and he looked sure to improve for the outing. The form of that race already looks strong with the 2nd home Atletico finishing a clear 2nd to Hugo Palmer's very promising Home Of The Brave whilst the 3rd home Aussie Ruler (who had experience) ran a blinder to finish 2nd in a Maiden at Glorious Goodwood earlier. Sure to build on the experience, I think he's got to go very, very close in this contest which doesn't look incredibly strong and hopefully he can end the night on a high.
Well if you needed any further evidence that my tips should be laid to the cows come home Caid du Berlais was further proof Re: the 3 year olds and Kingman I think Taghrooda, Kingman and let's not forget Australia will all prove exceptional. Hopefully Australia will follow suit at York and dismiss of his rivals as per his siblings. I fully expect he will. Regarding Kingman today I simply think he doesn't like running downhill (remember the Newmarket dip) as he seems a very top heavy animal. I wouldn't use today as a rod to beat him with, yes the bare form looks poor, but I genuinely think on a more conventional track he'll blow us away like he done at the Curragh and Ascot. Wouldn't compare him with Frankel yet though!
Rio Ronaldo still green and keen. Will win races for sure though. Think he'll go handicapping and progress that way though.
Just been given Song of Norway, it runs in the 8 o clock at Sandown. I'm currently not betting so won't be on myself but just thought i'd pass it on, price not expected to be too good though
I kid you not fellas that when I made my list of selections for Goodwood today both TEAK and MAGIQUE were on it. Not had a single penny on either!!! Still got to be happy with a win and a place from the two I did back!
KINGMAN plenty in hand and no complaints with the winner, but the Sussex is becoming a farce really. 4 runners, no pace- just send your horses there is plenty of prizemoney FFS. An utter dawdle. DARWIN a head behind Toronado
