Stunning performance from Kingman Torenado ran a great race too - they made a lot of Kingman's 7th furlong time of 10.23, but Torenado's 8th furlong time was a stonking 10.26 Tactical for sure, but still a fascinating contest
Very unsatisfactory race for me. The only thing it proved was that Kingman had the best turn of foot, and we already knew that. They are going on about running out of superlatives but surely that wasn't his best piece of form. His 7th furlong was faster than Frankel's but then Frankel didn't walk the first 6. Let's see him win a fast run 8f at Newmarket, the scene of his only defeat.
No doubt he is the best 3 year old miler but Tagroodah is clearly the best middle distance horse and it's hard to separate what each has done; both have now beaten their peers and older horses and both should be unbeaten in their careers for I am still not sure how kingman got beat in the Guineas. To the eye Kingmans kick makes him look the better, but we can take nothing from the filly.
They are way off the mark Ron in comparing him to Frankel just yet. That kick would be unlikely to be there after Frankel had dragged him the first 6f at a speed only he could.
Surely the QE2 will be the race for him to demonstrate his greatness? All-aged contest with a (hopefully) more challenging field. That will be his defining race.
Let's hope someone puts a pacemaker in to take them a good clip. Nothing will match Kingman's acceleration in a tactical race.
Really? I think its only natural to compare the two, same owner, same distance and both top class horses. Ultimately Frankel was a superstar and Kingman still has a way to go to reach similar heights, but it is natural to compare milers to one and other. It is a bit like comparing Arkle and.....
not MY postman, the lazy bastard ... "I've got a parcel for you - can you come and get it from the van as it's quite heavy ...." I bit my tongue and simply said "sorry, but I can't". He must be 30 years younger than me, and presumably without any heart defects!!!!
Kingman can't really be compared to Frankel since he blew the 2000 guineas which is the one race he needed to win...a bit like the great Kris who hoovered up many top prizes but was also second in the 2000. He is obviously a colt of the highest class and was impressive enough today to my mind..he showed another string to his bow to win off a NH pace. Also,as Ruby just said on RTE,he has done something Frankel couldn't..win a group one outside of his own backyard. I'll wait until after the QE2 before judging him,he still has a good bit to prove to be mentioned with Frankel.
Not betting, but the unraced touchline must be doing something special on the gallops to be so short in the next at Goodwood. She will obviously improve for upping in distance in time but clearly exciting someone somewhere.
