And sold players for 120-130 mn odd, net spend of 15mn a year. I meant net spend, should have clarified, no manager can change a team without spending money.

Around that time the Italian league went to pot. I meant more that he won the Champions League.

Inter were making losses since 96. Not his fault as a manager he spent 10-15mn a year (way lower than most any other big club) and got a lot of players in. Inter were hemorrhaging money for 15 years straight can't hold him responsible for that. The fact is he spent 10-15 a year net and won the biggest prize. While assembling a great team.

Hmm, I think you're being generous with your credit. Inter had a good team anyway and he still spent big sums on the squad. True that he sold players too, but seeing as Inter were making massive losses I don't see any financial prudence from Mourinho here.

Wherever he has gone, he has spent massive amounts of money. Very rarely has he even attempted to develop players. He's an 'off the shelf' manager who needs his chairmen to give him a blank chequebook to ensure success.

What was he gonna do sell 300mn worth of players at Inter to cope with their losses. If I am being generous with credit you are being way to harsh with your criticism . Also re-read my comments I dont think he is the type of managers to develop players or give youth a chance. I am responding to criticisms I think are very unfair just because people don't like his personality (and in the case of Arsenal fans that he has an issue with Wenger). I think he is crap at developing youth (made far worse by Chelsea failed youth project). But he is a truly WC manager and in that elite category he has proven it repeatedly. Also the claim he has to bankrupt a club to win is false as he has proven at both Porto and Inter. It is the ridiculous criticisms that fans associate on people (based on their own personal issues) which riles me up. I am responding more to that than the virtues of Mourinho.

Not really, managers are expected to achieve a certain level of success. I think most of the managers Southampton have had over the lest few years have been successful and so have "earned" the right to play youth.

I think this thread can be summed up with Jose is a ****, cannot succeed without money and pays no interest to youth.

He's also a ****, but I may have mentioned that.

Tbf to Mourinho he's joining teams which have. No interest in using the youth. When was the last time a Real Madrid player came through the youth set up and is now a starter?

When teams have unlimited wealth then there is no need for youth and that is the sad reality.

Teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and many more rely on the youth set up whether that's down to the history of the club or the lack of money.

Mourinho is joining teams based on the fact they want to pay to win, we complain that it isn't fair but it happens.

The only issue with Mourinho I have is the style of play he uses but towards money and youth he can't be seen as the problem.

Thanks for the welcome! Arsene knows. Nana is good at holding it up and distributing but a bit slow. Don't know enough about Slayer. You didn't ask about Welsh Jesus.

“My conscience is, for example, to say to you that I think Baker, Brown, Solanke, if in a few years they are not national team players, I should blame myself,” Mourinho said.
“They are part of a process the club started without me. Now, we have players who will be Chelsea players.
"And when they become Chelsea players, they will become England players, almost for sure. I’m not saying we’re doing it just for English football, because it is also about us.
“At the moment, officially in the first team squad, not under 21s coming to join us now and again, we have Christensen, Aké, probably another one because I want to have one more English player.
“Baker, Brown, Solanke and Jeremy Boga. These four are not going to be in my squad because I cannot have 30 in my squad, but these four are going to work with us all season and these four are going to be Chelsea players.
“These three are English – Brown, Solanke and Baker – they have to be Chelsea players and they have to be national team players. They have to.
"And I have this feeling that our academy is bringing players to our level.
“Chelsea will have a strong team with Christensen, Baker, Brown, Solanke, Boga and Kurt Zouma in two or three years, which is the end of my contract.
“English guys or seven or eight guys from the academy – home-grown players. It’s a complete turnaround. At the moment, you look at the Champions League list and John Terry is the only one club trained.”

If he wasn't forced to comply with the home grown rule, you wonder whether he'd actually bother.

In my eyes chelsea and man city are the killers of english international footbsll. They bring in dome of the best youg talents just to fill their quotas and then let them rot without developing. Just sad...

Good.
Hopefully PSG and Napoli will destroy French and Italian International football and we wont have to put up with International games any more.
Im kinda hoping America gets its **** together and takes over "soccer" on an international level, so that Europe calls it quits and stops playing Internationals. <ok>
