Yup, I think it has to be done to get some energy into the team for BR's new look era. Hopefully Johnson will be next -.-
Going to really miss Agger. Proper;y part of the furniture and has been a fantastic servant for us. I really hope he will be happy at Barca and get lots of game time. Probably is time for him to leave, which i never thought id say. At his best hes a cracking player but could probably do with finishing his career in a less physical league
Has to go! Great servant, like him and his love for us but he isnt good enough No room for sentiment now, get a good price for him and take Lucas, Johnson and Borini (JUST GO FFS) with him I'd say Reina too but not comfortable with Jones as back up
Yep, Reina, Agger, Johnson, Skrtel (gradual phase out), Lucas... the old guard so to speak should all go, Borini should too the stubborn ****er. There's some lovely spag bol, parmesan shavings and a decent pizza express up in Sunderland.
I'm probably one of the only people defending him on here. His stock was higher a few years ago and now most people probably agree that it's time for him to go. Personally I'm not of the opinion that Lucas and Agger need to leave. I don't think we can complain about loyalty when we push players out of the door ourselves. I like him and think that he's better than what many say he is. I believe that his ball playing skills are fantastic, while his defending is more error-prone due to Gerrard's positioning and our overall system. With the proper defensive cover from the midfield (that say, Can or Lucas can provide) he does well because he has other players back with him. With Stevie in the holding role, he's isolated and more prone to mistakes. I also believe he'd do much better in the new system than Skrtel who I really was not impressed with this year. Agger is leaving because he wants to play and to be honest, if it's Barcelona he's gotten very lucky because he'll do well there. He deserves to play at his peak and he'll still be at the top, top level of football that he was at here. Even higher probably. He's given his all for the club and as such I hate to see him go like this. It's the same reason I will support Borini with all my enthusiasm. We complain about players not showing loyalty and then you have our supporters basically telling him to **** off because they'd rather make a 3m profit on him. He played well last season and wants to try and make a mark here. Seriously we should be applauding him for sticking to his guns. Henderson did the same when Rodgers offered him in exchange for Dempsey. Same with Lucas. Let's show them some ****ing loyalty ourselves. It's not like they're Joe Cole and Charlie Adam either.
times change. i just want to point one thing out to all. If you have a foot race who do you want, agger who looked rusty and lacking pace or skertl who's able to run. Lovern and sahko both have some pace so we can play a high line. And that high line is as vital to us in our system as passing ability is. All the best to agger, i hope the move is a roaring success for him btu we also need to move on and I hope as there's a long time in life after a stint in spain where agger can come and be a true anfield legend every time he visits.
Agger is also one of the legacy wage earners, like Lucas, Johnson and Skrtel from the Rafa/Hodg days and will be earning a **** load, min 90kpw, so that's shifted too. Too much for a bench player
Yep, we won the CL in May 05 and Agger joined January 06. Pepe has been with us longer as he joined in the summer of 2005
