I have nothing to say but I hope if I just post this it will somehow spark non-depressing conversation.

National anthem will do. I'm not religious and I don't support the monarchy, plus it's musically crap. Zero marks.

I don't really like God Save the Queen but I can't stand Jerusalem.

They're all equally god-ish, land of hope probably gets my vote by process of elimination but there's too many thees/thys/thous. So yeah doubt it will change unless we don't have a monarchy any more.

The advantage of God Save The Queen is that football fans are capable of remembering the words.

Billy Connolly used to suggest the theme from the Archers as a new national anthem.

I also have to admit I don't know the words to Jerusalem that well. It's more the music I don't like.

Yes, and why not? At least the lyrics are a bit more inspiring. Plus they played it at the Olympics.

    Here are the lyrics:

And did those feet in ancient time walk upon England's mountain's green
And was the holy lamb of God on England's pleasant pastures scene
And did the countenance divine shine forth among those clouded hills
And was Jerusalem builded here among those dark satanic mills

    ....

The second verse is particularly inspiring:

Bring my bow of burning gold
Bring me my arrows of desire
Bring me my spear, O clouds unfold
Bring me my chariot of fire
I will not cease from mental fight
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
Till we have built Jerusalem in England's green and pleasant land

    ---

Would be a bit awkward when we play Israel though.

Any fans of what's termed "alternative" music (think Marilyn Manson etc) - Alt-Fest just got cancelled at the 11th hour.......no word from organisers as to why.

    Poor music :(

Just stop for a moment and imagine eleven England players and a packed Wembley singing "I GET KNOCKED DOWN, BUT I GET UP AGAIN, YOU'RE NEVER GONNA KEEP ME DOWN!"

And then the orchestra stops, like with the South American teams, and we have our spines tingling as the crowd sings "pissing the niiiight awaaaaay, pissing the niiiight awaaaaay."

I'd support this. I'd even be happy to learn the entire national anthem in French.

    Aux armes, citoyens,
    Formez vos bataillons,
    Marchons, marchons!
